One More Week; Municipal Crickets; The Great Soda Watch & Random Funnies: Random Tuesday Thoughts

Hello, my favorite Tuesday peeps! We have officially entered the FINAL WEEK of the hubby’s summer break.

One. More. Week.

Not that I’m counting or anything. 😆

And I’m happy to report that I’ve survived having him home and underfoot remarkably well! I haven’t had to send him on any elaborate wild goose chases, invent an urgent need for something from a store 45 minutes away, or lock my basement office door and pretend I’m not home.

So really, I’d call this whole experiment a success.

Of course, we still have one more week to go, so perhaps I shouldn’t get too cocky. 😂

Meanwhile, for those of you anxiously awaiting the next installment of The Drybox Chronicles…

crickets

We have heard absolutely NOTHING from the city.

Nada. Zip. Zilch.

At this point, I’m beginning to wonder if our paperwork fell behind someone’s desk, was accidentally filed under “We’ll Get To This Eventually,” or perhaps the carrier pigeon delivering their response got lost.

Or, in a perfect world, they’re not going to come ‘inspect’, and they’ll just let us leave it where it’s currently parked.

The hubby keeps saying he’s just going to start moving boxes into the drybox anyway.

And I keep thinking, Dude. You have ONE MORE WEEK of break.

Remember all those grand plans we had when your break started? All that talk about attacking those boxes “with a vengeance”?

Tick tock, my friend. Tick. Tock. 😂

In his defense, he has gotten things accomplished during his time off. But this goes right back to what we talked about last week: Before a vacation, our brains are convinced we’re about to become the most productive humans who ever lived.

Then vacation actually happens and Reality strolls in wearing sweatpants and says, “Nah, man. Relaaaaaax.”

Apparently Reality is very persuasive.

As for me, there’s definitely no relaxing happening this week because I’m heading into an ultra-busy work week.

In fact—and I almost hate to put this in writing—I’m going to be working through the weekend.

GASP.

Those of you who know me know that’s extremely rare. I take my work/life balance pretty seriously. When you work from home, it’s far too easy for work to creep into evenings, weekends, and every other available nook and cranny if you let it. My office may only be downstairs, but when the workday is over, I firmly believe work should stay down there.

Usually.

This week, however, I have a bunch of video editing to get through for one of my clients, and I also have an Executive Board Meeting to attend on Saturday. Since Saturday already has the audacity to contain work-related activities, I figure I might as well lean into it and get some editing done, too.

Thankfully, I have something fun waiting for me Saturday night because the hubby has a gig at one of my favorite venues!

It’s one of those places where I actually enjoy hanging out while the band plays, so after a week of staring at video timelines and spending part of Saturday in a meeting, live music, good food, good friends, and an adult beverage or two will be a VERY welcome change of scenery.

There is, however, one important question hanging over the evening:

Will they have regular soda?

The last time the band played there, the venue somehow managed to run out of regular soda after our first round.

FIRST. ROUND.

I’m still not entirely sure how that happens.

Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Pepsi – nothing I can drink, because I’m allergic to the artificial sweeteners—instant headache.

I don’t feel like “Will there be enough Coke?” should be one of the logistical concerns involved in attending a gig, but apparently we’ve added it to the checklist.

Band? Check.

Good food? Check.

Friends? Check.

Place to sit? Check.

Adequate carbonated beverage inventory?

TO BE DETERMINED.

So here’s hoping somebody checked the soda supply before Saturday night. Stock up, people. We’re coming. 😆

Other than that, things are fairly quiet around these here parts. Fall is getting closer, the hubby is preparing to head back to work, The Drybox Chronicles remain stuck in municipal purgatory, and I’m about to spend an unreasonable number of hours staring at video editing software.

But there is a gig—and hopefully a fully stocked regular sodas—waiting for me at the end of it.

Sometimes it’s the little things. 😉

Now, let’s move on to this week’s collection of random funnies and whatever else managed to make me laugh!
