Hello, my favorite Tuesday peeps! Welcome back to Day 2 of the Pacific Northwest Heat Wave, which means Mother Nature is apparently experiencing a hot flash of epic menopausal proportions.
Temperatures have been hovering well above our comfort zone, and every conversation seems to begin with, “It’s too hot.” The good news? Relief is in sight. Forecasts suggest we’ll be returning to our regularly scheduled Pacific Northwest weather tomorrow, complete with temperatures that don’t make us question every life choice that led us outside.
When that happens, I fully expect our collective sanity to return right alongside the cooler air.
The biggest bright spot of the past week has been my brother’s continued recovery. After spending far more time in the hospital than anyone would ever want, he was finally released mid-week last week.
While my sister-in-law was out of town for work, he stayed with his mother-in-law so he could have some extra help during those first few days at home. He’s now back in his own house and doing remarkably well with his initial recovery.
Speaking of roofs… let’s talk about why my family would now like to officially ban them.
He recently shared a photo of one of his post-surgery X-rays, and let me tell you—it is incredibly sobering to see. Modern medicine is amazing, but seeing the hardware and repairs required after his accident really drives home just how serious everything was.
Scary! 8 ribs broken, plus his scapula (big bone across upper back attached to shoulder), and punctured a lung. We’re all grateful for the skilled medical team that got him through it and for the progress he’s making every day.
Perhaps the best update of all came when he announced that all of his extension ladders will soon be appearing on Facebook Marketplace. Apparently, the experience led him to a very important realization: he’s no longer 25 years old, and his future plans do not include climbing ladders.
Frankly, I think that’s a solid life decision. Some lessons are learned the easy way, and some come with a titanium-enhanced reminder. Either way, we’re thrilled to have him home, healing, and making plans that involve both feet remaining firmly on the ground. 😅
