Drybox Drama; 4th of July Dog Drama; Delightful Weather and Random Funnies: Random Tuesday Thoughts

Hello, my favorite Tuesday peeps! Well, it appears Mother Nature finally heard my desperate pleas about the heat because she promptly traded the 90-degree weather for rain and enough chilly air to make me wonder if I’d accidentally skipped ahead to September. I’m not complaining one bit!

After a few soggy days, we’re settling into what I consider perfect Pacific Northwest weather this week—a mix of sunny days, cloudy skies (without the rain), and temperatures topping out around 77 degrees. Now that’s what I’m talking about! Windows open, fresh air flowing through the house, and no one melting into the furniture. I’d happily keep this forecast until October, thank you very much.

Our latest home project, however, has hit a bit of an unexpected speed bump. Remember the drybox we recently had delivered so we could finally tackle the mountain of boxes we’ve accumulated over the years? Well… apparently our tiny town had other plans.

We received a letter letting us know that, a few years ago, they updated the rules. Now we need to submit a site plan, fill out paperwork, and have the property inspected before they’ll officially approve placing a drybox on our land… the same drybox that’s already sitting on our property. You really can’t make this stuff up.

The only hiccup? While it’s more than ten feet from the house, it’s apparently a little too cozy with the garage. So now we’re working on a plan to rotate it 90 degrees, and thankfully we’ve found a couple of guys willing to come help us… for the right price, of course.

The catch? We currently have the drybox about half full, which means we’ll need to empty the entire thing, move it, and then load everything back in before we can get back to the original plan of emptying the seemingly endless stacks’o’boxes inside the house.

It’s one of those moments where hindsight is crystal clear. We talked about getting a drybox four years ago, but didn’t pull the trigger. Had we done it then, we’d have completely dodged the new ordinance. Ah well… onward we go!

This weekend also brings the Fourth of July, which means we’ll once again have a bird’s-eye view from our deck of what feels like every firework display within a five-mile radius. It’s honestly pretty spectacular to watch from up here.

The downside? For a few hours, our peaceful little neighborhood transforms into something that sounds suspiciously like a war zone.

The poor puppies are not fans. I’ve stocked up on calming treats, we’ll have the sound machine cranked up to full blast, and I fully expect all four dogs to relocate under our bed until the explosions finally stop. If you’ve ever wondered how many dogs can fit under one bed at the same time… I may have an answer by Saturday morning. 😅

Now, before I start drafting a strongly worded letter to whoever decided paperwork should come after delivery, let’s dive into this week’s funnies! This is hilarious:
