How did we get to the final Monday of March already? Who’s handling that fast-forward button? Can you please stop? 😅 Meanwhile, since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! This week’s theme is “the last three days of March are known as ‘Borrowing Days’. Share stormy weather-inspired song picks.” Let’s get this stormy party started!
Let’s start with one of my favorite artists from her fourth studio album, which debuted at number one on Billboard 200, making her the third female to chart at number one on the Billboard 200 with three country albums, tying her with Linda Ronstadt and Faith Hill.
The artist took her time working on this particular album, since she “wanted to change things up”, and she needed to step away from the “celebrity bubble” to “have real things to write about and real things to sing about.”
Those of you familiar with her will have noticed that this album features material different from her previous efforts. The album itself combines country, pop, and rock genres. You know, because she’s multi-talented like that.
Here’s the inimitable Carrie Underwood with “Blown Away”:
Next up is a group that caught my attention way back in 2013 with their boat song, and with this one they jumped out of the boat and into the storm. Together since 1998, the quartet’s long road to success was littered with radio roadblocks and label detours. They released five albums before they achieved validation in the form of their first Number One song (the boat one I was referring to).
After almost 15 years together, the secret to reaching such sweet success of their first Grammy and Country Music Association award wins was banning perfectionism from the studio while making their latest album, from which this particular song hails.
They had all actually returned to their day jobs to earn money to put out the album, and their perseverance paid off. What I like most about them is they truly worked hard to become successful, and they genuinely appreciate where they are now.
Here’s Little Big Town with “Tornado”:
Next up, back in 2018, this artist caught some heat after saying he planned to go surfing at Folly Beach in South Carolina just before Hurricane Florence hit. He even posted an Instagram photo of himself on the (very evacuated) beach with a surfboard, quoting:
“I ain’t afraid of dying
I got no need to explain
I feel like going surfing in a hurricane.”
Not surprisingly, people weren’t thrilled. After the backlash, the artist clarified that he wasn’t encouraging anyone to take risks, reminding fans to stay safe, be cautious, and listen to local authorities.
Here’s the late, great Jimmy Buffett with “Surfing In A Hurricane”:
Last but certainly not least is an artist who was one of the first ones I listened to when my best friend was trying to convince me that country music was even better than before. To this day, I still prefer ‘New Country’ over the old-style stuff.
Fun fact: This artist, frustrated by conflicts between his career and family, retired from recording and performing until his youngest daughter turned 18. 2014 marked his big comeback to recording and touring – I think it’s very admirable that he put his family first.
Without further ado, here’s the awesome Garth Brooks with “The Thunder Rolls”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!
Now, onto the particulars of Monday’s Music Moves Me:
I have the supreme honor and privilege of being a co-host with the inimitable Xmas Dolly and our musical cohort, the awesome Cathy from Curious as a CAThy, and Alana of Ramblin’ with AM!
Want to join in the fun? It’s easy – just find a tune that rocks your boat, post it, and link up! Check out the other music lovahs and let’s jam!

I miss Jimmy Buffett …
Great songs here. I do like Carrie Underwood, but I heard she can be a bit of a diva…sadly. poor Jimmy Buffet….if he wanted to surf in a hurricane which, I think, is stupid, let him. Now everyone gets offended and that all these teens will follow him….ughh. how sad. Sadder still is that J. B. Is no longer with us
The one song I knew was the Garth Brooks song. I am not a fan of the old-style twangy country style – that twangy guitar sound, for some reason, gets on my nerves. I played these songs for my spouse and he didn’t guess that any were country music. I really got into that Jimmy Buffet song (let’s paddle out, boys!) and also the one from Little Big Town but Garth Brooks was still my favorite of the week.
Nice set of songs, Stacy! Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, dearie. Have a boogietastic week! xo
Great choices for the theme. I like all of these 👍
