When The Sun Goes Down at my Redneck Yacht Club, i’ll be sitting in my Beach Chair Knee Deep

Hello, my favorite Monday peeps! As you know, Monday means music! This week’s theme is “Jul 14 The bikini debuted in 1948 this month. Let’s celebrate the occasion with song picks about swimwear and/or water fun”. Let’s get this water fun party started!

Having some water fun in a tropical paradise is an artist who is dynamite on stage, unassuming in person, and who was steadily crafting his career for nearly 15 years before he finally hit it big with an awesome song in 2002 that garnered triple platinum.

Back in 2004, it was a big day for both this country artist and the rock and rap artist as this duet by the two of them soared to the top of the charts. For this artist, it was his seventh return to the No. 1 spot, but for the other, it was the beginning of his enduring relationship with country music fans.

Let’s have some fun with Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker with “When The Sun Goes Down”:

Next up with some more water fun is a song from 2005, the second single of this artist’s album, released at the time. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of 500,000, and was also certified Gold for digital downloads. The artist said:

“I think (redneck) used to be considered a derogatory term, but not anymore. Now it’s considered more of a lifestyle than anything.”

The video takes place out on Percy Priest Lake in Davidson County, TN, where the artist and some of his buddies are having fun, such as soaking up the sun and boat-riding. Some scenes of the video feature the artist riding on a boat, singing on the deck, and a flotation device out in the middle of the lake. Country music singer Blake Shelton also makes a cameo appearance along with Aaron Tippin. The party that the group of diehard friends is having symbolizes the fun that they have on the lake, “all summer long”.

Get ready for some water fun, here’s Craig Morgan with “Redneck Yacht Club”:

Next up, with more water fun is this single that was released in May 2024. For over two decades now, this artist has blended country, pop, and rock with a dash of hip-hop flair that he grew up on, and with this song, he added another song to his hit-filled discography. This island-flavored song is meant for kicking back and lounging by the water.

The song finds him at his most chill, mellow, and laid back:

Somewhere there’s a beach chair in the warm air / And a cold beer with my name on it

Give a listen to Uncle Kracker with “Beach Chair”:

With a final (and favorite) water fun entry, this track is from this next group’s second major-label studio album. It also has a guest artist along for the ride—the collaboration happened as a result of a chance meeting in 2009 when they met on a camping trip and hung around a campfire. Pretty cool, no? Well, you’ll see.

The song stemmed from one of the band members’ breakups, where he felt he needed to just get away and find water somewhere, which initiated the first verse and melody. The music video is wacky, filmed on a private beach, and includes actress Juliette Lewis as one of the characters.

I love this song with its island vibe – I’m sure you will too. Here’s Zac Brown Band featuring the late great Jimmy Buffett with “Knee Deep”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!

  1. Summertime and country music go together quite beautiful. Fun set of songs, Stacy. Thanks for the dance. Have a boogietastic week, darlin’! xo

  2. I’ve never been a big beach person but now I’m ready to go out in the water and have me some fun – if only I could! (Long story but part of it that I’m over 150 miles from the ocean). Every time I see a mention of Uncle Kracker it reminds me of when he was banned from a local hot air balloon/music festival where he was scheduled to be the headliner because of his lyrics, even though he promised to only sing clean versions. This was back in 2001. I bet someone out there still regrets what they did to him.
