Fourth of July Booming and Pedal Steel Fun; Random Funnies: Random Tuesday Thoughts

Hello, my favorite Tuesday peeps! Hope you all had a great Fourth of July! The hubby had a gig at a tavern that was established in 1920, and that’s all the town consists of: the tavern, the post office, a small market, and a library. 😅

Since the weather was cooperating, the hubby and his music partner played on the stage outside. It was interesting – about halfway through their gig, a gaggle of people pulled up to the grassy area behind the stage and started shooting off fireworks. We literally had a front row seat to the fun, though the really loud booms drowned out the music.

Johnny Ray is on the left, playing guitar and singing; my hubby is on the right, playing pedal steel. Many people are intrigued by the pedal steel – it’s not a steel guitar, nor is it a lap guitar… It’s got its own legs, along with multiple pedals and knee levers. It’s really mind-boggling. It’s been called the “Rubik’s Cube of a musical instrument.”

I’m not sure which brand name he has at the moment; he’s bought and sold so many over the years. It might be an Emmons, designed by the fantastic pedal steel player Buddy Emmons, who played pedal steel for many big-name artists starting back in the 1950s.

The hubby loves playing it, and it shows. He’s gotten quite adept at playing some fabulous leads for the variety of music they play – current country and rock from the 70s-90s. Pretty impressive! The fireworks were throwing them off Friday night, though—apparently, they couldn’t hear themselves through their monitors onstage during those times, either – while they were playing the same song, they both got lost and were playing different parts for a few of the songs. 😂

I got some temporary tattoo 4th of July face freckles to deck out in – I got lots of compliments:

It’s one piece you transfer on, but I think next year I’m going to cut the cheek part from the nose part and move them out a little further – apparently my face is too wide for the size of these (I think they’re made so kids can wear them…heh!)

And of course, here’s your weekly reminder of Christmas in the offing!

Days Until Christmas

Let’s move on to the funnies, shall we? This cracked me up (an alarm went off in the building in the background up in Olympia, so the police went to investigate and saw this ‘suspect’ slowly ‘running’ from the scene…):

  1. I’ll have to watch the nodding! Thanks for the laughs and have a great week.

  2. Looks like you had a fantastic Fourth of July weekend! I was smiling all the way through, but I absolutely lost it at the “suspect” dog slowly running from the scene, pure gold! That picture is going to live rent-free in my head for a while.
