Hello, Monday peeps! For those who celebrate Easter, I hope you had a good one! Ours was lowkey – I was super late creating Easter baskets for us, but managed to pull them together just in time for dinner…heh! Good thing we all know I’m the Easter Bunny, eh? Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music! This week’s theme is “Spring colors”. Let’s get this color party started!
Let’s start with a song that fits the color scheme this week from this artist, who, although the album this song is on did well, this particular song never charted. Poor guy. I couldn’t find any background info on this song, other than the artist was quoted as saying:
“That was started by Jason Boland, a country singer, Oklahoma/Texas guy. I always enjoyed his stuff. I found that song, it was called ‘Telephone Romeo,’ it wasn’t quite there yet. I switched it around and made it about what I perceived to be a relationship about the girl you grow up next door to, she’s really the one you’re supposed to be with, but you’ve got to go out and see it all first yet to realize that.”
Give a listen to Kid Rock with “Purple Sky”:
Next up in the spring color scheme is appropriate in that it’s a barefoot, blue jean night with beer, sweet tea, beautiful girls, and an old guitar—that would be perfect on a spring day, eh? Just about every idyllic image known to country music is in this one. This is the first single from this artist’s third album.
It was the artist’s former girlfriend who convinced him to record the song. He was quoted as saying:
“I was almost finished with my record. I had that song on my email. I listened to it over and over one night when my girlfriend at the time came downstairs, and we were breaking up. She said, ‘You’re an idiot if you don’t record this.’ I think she thought I was an idiot anyway, which is why she was leaving, but I did listen. She liked it, and for a girl who never mentioned much about my music, because I think my music is the one thing that kept me away from her, so she never complimented me much on it – for her to say that, I knew.
I already knew in my mind it was a good song, but when she said that, I was like, all right, I’m cutting it. So it worked out. It’s weird, I knew it would be a hit, but I didn’t know it would be this big. I don’t know what else to base it off of, because I’ve never had anything like that. I’ve had hits on the radio, but this is different. I keep telling folks, there’s a difference between a hit song and a career song, and this is a career song.”
Give a listen to Jake Owen with “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”:
Next up, what’s spring without the mention of flowers, am I right? I’ve shared this song multiple times before, but it’s an awesome song, so it’s worth sharing again. This artist reflects on her doomed on-again, off-again 10+ year relationship, realizing that she doesn’t need him to make her happy.
The song serves as a reminder to the artist of her own worth and the type of love she deserves. The pop star is determined to receive the love she needs in the form and intensity she desires, and if she can’t find it in a partner, she will give it to herself. The flowers mentioned in the lyrics symbolize the attention and care that she needs and wants to give to herself.
Without further ado, here’s Miley Cyrus with “Flowers”:
Last but certainly not least is a song from this favorite artist whose title says it all. The album this song is on features songs that depict the extremes of human emotion; it contrasts these extremes by emphasizing the importance of optimism, even in the most difficult times.
This message is best encapsulated by this song, which relates the changing of seasons to the hope of overcoming hardships:
We can’t let winter win, that’s why I’m holding out for spring / Oh, what a state we’re in, I’ll keep holding out for spring
See? Told you it was theme-appropriate. 😁
Without further ado, here’s Ed Sheeran with “Spring”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!

Flowers is a good song. Having someone special to treat you like a flower is the best thing ever. I hope Miley and other women lacking this in their relationships find that special someone. Meanwhile, make yourself happy. Ultimately, happiness begins with each of us first. Having someone to share in that happiness just makes it better. I like your music collection. Thanks for spinning them for us today. I hope you and your family had a joyful Easter celebration, Stacy. Have a blessed and boogietastic week! xo
Nice song choices
These are great songs and I enjoyed them all.
Great songs. Very cool.
You picked some good songs here!
Favorite song: Flowers (was never a big Myley Cyrus fan but I love this song). Favorite video: Ed Sheeran. Really liked the artwork.
I was trying to comment on Tuesday, but you seem to have comments turned off. Love the music (though I seldom comment on Monday) and the funnies were great. I hope you can get some down time soon!
Thank you! It appears that a plug-in went rogue and turned off the commenting option… thanks for the heads up! All fixed! And you’re welcome over here on Mondays anytime…heh!
