Hello, Monday peeps! I’m not gonna lie—this is my least favorite time of year when we get that hour taken away. My internal clock never seems to catch up until we get that hour back in the fall. Let the ditzy blonde moments commence for the next 34 weeks! 😅
DST takes up 65% of the year. Extending it to hog more of the year has always been a point of contention with me. Just sayin’. Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music! This week’s theme is “Shades of Green.” Let’s get this green party started!
Let’s start with a song from one of my nerd child’s favorite bands. They wrote this song about being in the band and being friends in their rehearsal space. The bassist said:
“I played C major and that was the first thing [Spencer Smith] started playing on the drums. Four hours later, the song was done. We changed some of the structure and some of the lyrics. We like the spontaneity of writing a song.”
The music video includes the band at different stages in their lives. The video begins with a child version of one of the band members opening matryoshka dolls. When he opens the last doll, the band members come out and jump off the desk. They then land in a field and find various musical instruments.
After playing with them for a while, they suddenly open up (in the style of matryoshka dolls), and child versions of themselves emerge. The child versions of the band start running in the hills, while older versions ride penny-farthings and sing in a row boat.
The child versions of the band start rolling down a hill in a life-sized matryoshka doll and then opening once more to be elderly versions of the band, who, according to the director of the video, are “the old ’06 Panic!”. The versions in the rowboat, he said, would be considered “the new Pretty. Odd. Panic”. The video ends with the band members rowing the boat into the sunset, along with a zoom-out scene of the matryoshka dolls.
Here’s Panic! At The Disco with “That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)”:
Next up is an artist who knows a thing or two about a love song and about girls with big green eyes. The country icon penned this track in 2010, for not only his wife of 30 years (at that time), but also for all three of their daughters, who have big green eyes just like their mama.
Here’s Alan Jackson with “Big Green Eyes”:
Next up is a song from this favorite Louisiana-born country artist from his fourth studio album, where he longs to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and return to a simpler life in the country. The songwriters of this song were inspired by their simultaneous need for a change of scenery. One was on the hunt for lakefront property in her native Massachusetts, while the other and his wife were also in search of a quiet piece of land away from the city. They said:
“So there was a little bit of that feeling of, ‘Man, the city’s wearing me out, it’s kinda good to get back to some kind of roots thing. So we both had some of that going on and were trying to touch on that – a little bit of being tired of the urban thing and simplicity appealing to you again.”
Give a listen to the always amazing Tim McGraw with “Where The Green Grass Grows”:
Last but certainly not least is a song that came to my head right away upon seeing this week’s theme. This song is no doubt from our most favorite green dude ever. The song has been covered by the likes of Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Van Morrison, and other performers. It’s also considered the signature song of this favorite character.
He begins lamenting his green coloration, expressing that green “blends in with so many ordinary things” and wishing to be some other color. But by the song’s end, he recalls positive associations with the color green and concludes by accepting and embracing his greenness.
Here’s everybody’s favorite green frog, Kermit with “It’s Not Easy Being Green”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!
Now, onto the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:
I have the supreme honor and privilege of being a co-host with the inimitable Xmas Dolly and our musical cohort, the awesome Cathy from Curious as a CAThy, and Alana of Ramblin’ with AM!
Want to join in the fun? It’s easy – just find a tune that rocks your boat, post it and link up – don’t forget to grab Xmas Dolly…er, um, I mean her button…over at her place here. Check out Xmas Dolly’s sidebar for the random themes we sport each week – and you can always ask for a specific theme of music you like, too. Check out the other music lovahs and let’s jam!
Excellent music line-up, Stacy! My favorite has to be Kermit with “Bein’ Green”, though. You and Robin were on the same page this week using him. 🙂 Have a boogietastic week, darlin’! xo
Nice song choices. We both like Kermit.
Very nice playlist. I had Kermit, but a different song. Very nice.
We actually had a match on Alan Jackson!
Except for Kermit, I didn’t know any of these songs. So many of us chose a Kermit song, I feel like kicking myself. Of the non Kermit songs, my favorite was the Panic! At the Disco song.
I’m almost a week behind but I enjoyed your posts and songs.
