Monday has arrived! Did anyone have or attend a Super Bowl party yesterday? I used to host Super Bowl parties in my past life – my current hubby isn’t a football fan, so those parties are just a glimmer of memory. Though I think, once I get the house purged and organized, I might just start those back up again. 😉

Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music! This week’s theme is “Valentine’s Day or Shades of Red Songs.” Let’s get this Valentine’s party started!

Let’s start with a song that was this group’s attempt at writing the perfect Valentine’s Day song; this finds the band looking to capture their romantic feelings when they’re with their loved ones. The drummer explained:

“Lyrically, it’s about a lazy love that feels free. It’s a love that meets in the middle and there’s no expectations.”

The vocalist said, “…that Valentine’s Day should be every day.” (I agree!) The group performed this song for the first time back in March 2018. The director explained the music video’s ‘dark, androgynous aesthetic’:

“There are a few things we wanted to capture; the androgyny and the feminine element of the way Luke performs as well as the dark romance of the song. This video is us taking something into our own hands and attempting to be a part of every single detail of what we create.”

Next up is a song that represents ‘red’ for this week’s theme – a song that fun to sing to, and the artist is definitely a favorite. She’s smart, beautiful, and funny as hell.

In the video, the artist pulls up to a motel in the middle of nowhere and goes to check in, accompanied (of course) by an adorable little dog, though a sign behind the desk plainly reads, “No Pets Allowed.”

She charms everyone from the desk manager to the maid, and pretty soon, the entire motel staff is moving along to the music, with the man behind the desk joining in on a mean air guitar. Lambert also flirts with the shirtless pool boy, but by the end of the video, there’s no doubt who owns her heart — as she’s walking toward her platinum trailer to head on down the road, she’s wearing a belt that says “Mrs. Shelton” on the back… I wonder if she plans to edit that part of the video at some point. 😉

Next up is a song that represents shades of red and fits me perfectly, considering I love making wine. Naturally, I had to include it. 😉 It was written and originally recorded by Neil Diamond and has been covered by many people since; this particular one happens to be my favorite. This version topped the U.S. and UK singles charts, and Neil Diamond included it on his The Greatest Hits album (1966-1992).

Last but certainly not least is a song I could find absolutely no information on, other than it was part of an album released by this group in January 2017 – so it’s been out seven years. And I did find a live performance of it on the Today Show from December 2016, but I like the sound from the album version better, which is what I’m sharing today.

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!
