Hello, Monday peeps! Here in the Pacific Northwest, we’re back to rain galore. Flood warnings and high wind warnings today through tomorrow morning – yeesh! It’s not the best way to enjoy the final Monday of February, am I right?
Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music! This week’s theme is “Fever – cabin or running one.” Let’s get this fever party started!
Let’s start with a song (that will potentially be shared multiple times today) from a favorite group I enjoyed in the 80s. In an interview in 2009, one of the band members explained that their songs are about relationships and emotions and said:
“I’ve never gone into any political or message-type songs, as far as I know.”
This song was a big hit for this group, though it was eclipsed in 1984 with another song that had a more sensitive tone. 😉 Nothing conveys testosterone-charged sexuality quite like this song, and it has been used in several movies and TV shows as a result, including Blades of Glory, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, WKRP In Cincinnati and The Simpsons. The song got special treatment on the show Bones, where Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz sing it in two episodes.
Representing ‘fever’, here’s Foreigner with “Hot Blooded”:
Next is a song from one of my nerd child’s favorite bands. The frontman said about the song:
“I had this nice 6/8 peaceful lullaby intro and then it transforms into a completely different rhythmic feel… I wanted to give you a feeling of descending into something you don’t even realize. So it’s supposed to be like falling asleep or falling into a dream.”
The lyrics: I hate the neighbours, they hate me too, were explained:
“With that neighbours lyric I wanted to sum up an awful lot with something childish and blunt, there’s a lot of childish lyrics on AFD, it’s become the language of politics and a lot of other things.”
Here’s Everything Everything with “A Fever Dream”:
Next up is a song that was released 6 1/2 years ago (sheesh, time flies!) by this favorite group who opened the 2018 CMT Music Awards on June 6, 2018, by performing the summer-ready jam live for the first time. It was released the same day to radio and digital platforms.
One of the producers was quoted as saying:
“I dare you to sit still when this song comes on… it’s impossible. I don’t even dance, but something comes over me when this thing kicks.”
Get ready to dance, here’s the inimitable Little Big Town with “Summer Fever”:
Last but certainly not least—to escape from the cabin fever mindset—is a track from this group’s second major-label studio album. It also has a guest artist along for the ride; the collaboration happened due to a chance meeting in 2009 when they met on a camping trip and hung around a campfire. Pretty cool, no? Well, you’ll see.
They may or may not have been vacationing in Margaritaville, if you know what I mean.
The song is about laying back and having no worries—some of the lyrics say, “Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair.” The song stemmed from one of the band members’ breakup when he felt he needed to just get away and find water somewhere, which initiated the first verse and melody. The music video is whacky, filmed on a private beach, and includes actress Juliette Lewis as one of the characters.
I love this song with its island vibe – definitely a tune to dream of getting away from the winter blues and cabin fever. Here’s Zac Brown Band, and the late great Jimmy Buffett with “Knee Deep”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!
Now, onto the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:
I have the supreme honor and privilege of being a co-host with the inimitable Xmas Dolly and our musical cohort, the awesome Cathy from Curious as a CAThy, and Alana of Ramblin’ with AM!
Want to join in the fun? It’s easy – just find a tune that rocks your boat, post it and link up – don’t forget to grab Xmas Dolly…er, um, I mean her button…over at her place here. Check out Xmas Dolly’s sidebar for the random themes we sport each week – and you can always ask for a specific theme of music you like, too. Check out the other music lovahs and let’s jam!
I love Foreigner!
As cold as it has been, I have a bit of summer fever on the brain and that says a lot for someone who really hates the heat. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your song picks this week. Have a boogietastic week, darlin’! xo
My friends are on a cruise right now to the Bahamas…lucky buggers…lol. enjoyed the music as always.
Great songs and I have really become a fan of Little Big Town
That is a great song.
The last song was my favorite this week, maybe not surprising because it had Jimmy Buffet in it. (Sorry, Foreigner). Good songs to break out of cabin fever time with during a day when our recent mild (to us) weather broke and we are back into winter with snow flurries coming down right now.
