Hello, Monday peeps! I appreciate an extra ‘no alarm’ day since today isn’t an official work day as we honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which provides a wonderful opportunity to talk about peace, cooperation, acceptance, and caring for others. Since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s) and come dance with us, won’t you?
Let’s start with a new song that is brought to life with a moving music video that sheds light on addiction and encourages others to reach out to help those who may be struggling. Filmed in Gallatin, Tennessee, and stars Breaking Bad’s RJ Mitte, the storyline follows the song, vividly capturing the story of two individuals, Miss Carol and Tommy, who are haunted by addiction.
Miss Carol’s life as a school teacher with an alcohol problem is depicted in the opening scene. She is seen leaving work and heading to the store, where she purchases two large bottles of vodka. While there, she crosses paths with Tommy, who is facing his own battle with prescription drugs. He faces eviction and attempts to land a job but ultimately faces rejection.
As the video continues, both Miss Carol and Tommy sadly succumb to their illnesses. But things take an interesting turn near the end when the video begins to rewind, taking viewers back to the beginning scenes. At this point, the other characters in the video have the opportunity to change the outcome for Miss Carol and Tommy by simply asking, “Are you okay?”.
The song and music video serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles many face in silence and the importance of checking in on friends, loved ones, or even strangers to offer support. The artist said:
“The actors did an incredible job bringing this story to life. Breaking Bad has always been one of my all-time favorite shows, so having RJ involved in this project was amazing. He truly embodied who Tommy is. I hope this video serves as a reminder to reach out to anyone who’s been on your mind and check in on them.”

Next is a new version of this Grammy-nominated band’s hit song, collaborating with another hit country artist. I couldn’t find any background story on this collaboration, but that really doesn’t matter because it’s awesome. 😂
Give a listen to OneRepublic featuring Jelly Roll with “Hurt”:
Next is a brand new song that was released on January 17th, featuring a collaboration between this trio of brothers and a well-known masked DJ to celebrate their 20th anniversary. This sultry track highlights the group’s growth, merging smooth melodies with themes of taking relationships at a thoughtful, relaxed pace.
This is the second collaboration between the brothers and the masked DJ, following their hit 2021 single “Leave Before You Love Me,” which peaked at No. 19 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The new single has quickly generated excitement among fans, even with minimal promotion leading up to its release. The band first introduced the track during Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest, just before their kickoff performance.
Without further ado, here’s Marshmello and Jonas Brothers with “Slow Motion”:
Last but certainly not least is a brand new song from this favorite alternative-folk duo from their fifth studio album, expected to be released on February 14th. The 2x GRAMMY® Award-nominated band’s fifth studio album marks 20 years of songwriting between the two, and in one of the duo’s words:
“…explores some of the absurdities of the modern world, like the increasingly blurry line between what’s real and what’s not, and the variety of ways we numb ourselves while trying to combat both boredom and overstimulation”. “
The LP was recorded in less than a month, and as one of them says, it is an album that feels “very much of this era.”
