Hello, Monday peeps! Is it just me, or does it seem a little melancholy now that the holidays are in our rearview mirror? I love the time of year (specifically November and December) because of all the fun, festivities, and holidays. Once we hit January, we are back to the old grind, and have to wait a very long time for more festivities.

At least this week’s melancholy can be a little thwarted since it is Monday, and you know that Monday means music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s) and come dance with us, won’t you?

Let’s start with this song that I had on replay just before the holiday tunes took over from this new (to me) British singer-songwriter. It was released back in May 2024 and is considered his breakout hit.

In an interview, he said he created the song during his visit to Malibu, California in January 2024, when he wanted to write “something that’s really warm, fun and happy”. The title was inspired by a moment of him watching a sunset in Malibu with his friends. According to the artist, he instantly came up with the chorus.

Regarding the process of composing the song with his co-songwriters, he said:

“It was just us jumping around, about day five into writing—looking at each other with guitars and having the time of our lives. It came from the idea of the people that you love, the things that you love, always being present in your life, maybe in a way you don’t recognize or see. And then that coming into light later in the day, and that euphoric moment of realizing that. The whole song wasn’t finished on that day, but the embers of it definitely were. From the very moment that that melody was found, the warmth in the room was infectious.”

Next is a song from this American country music singer that was released on December 31, 2024. He sings about life’s little moments and longing, as he focuses on a troubled relationship through ‘filtered snapshots’:

It was good to see you smile / Girl you know it’s been a while / It was good to see you smile / Even if it was just for the picture

The music video features the artist as himself, getting ready to perform a late-night show set on New Year’s Eve. Waiting for his call time in the green room, he looks over at a woman sitting nearby. Once called onstage, instead of singing his previous hit as planned, the star performs this song, going off-script.

Despite going rogue on the late-night show and leaving the producers panicked, the ratings skyrocketed thanks to the artist’s performance. The woman emerges from the green room to watch him, and they stare at each other longingly before going their separate ways.

Next is a brand new song from this favorite group that was released on my birthday (December 9, 2024) so, you know, that makes it extra special. 😉 I didn’t find much by way of the background story of this song, though the rumblings are that he wrote it for/about his ex-wife. A Redditor speculated:

“I think the whole “don’t forget me” thing is pretty much saying “don’t bury me alive”. So he is saying to her to keep good memory of him while they are still both alive, enjoy every sandwich and keep on living… but never forget about love they had.”

I can concur with that assessment. 🙂

Without further ado, here’s Imagine Dragons with “Don’t Forget Me”:

Last but certainly not least is a new song from this favorite British rock band from their tenth studio album, and was announced as their final single ever. The frontman said:

“[This song]” is really the final [Band] single. After this, there’s no more singles, because we don’t want to do that. Of all of the songs that have dropped through really quickly, this is may be the one that I just don’t understand how it happened. I’m so grateful for this song. I don’t know if and when it will connect with who or not, but for me, it’s a really important song. It’s like, after everything we’ve been through, you have all my love. That’s it.

That’s how we feel about life and the world and our fans and our critics and everybody. I didn’t really have to do anything on that song. I just played it. I don’t know how to explain that. Even when I’m playing it now, I’m like: “how did that come through?”

The official video is dedicated to American actor Dick Van Dyke, who handled production alongside his wife Arlene Silver. Celebrating his 99th birthday – this video is so much fun!

Get ready for some major goosebumps; here’s Coldplay with “All My Love”:

And just for fun, here’s the Director’s Cut where there’s some convo with Dick Van Dyke, as well as at the very end, Chris Martin does an impromptu song just for Dick that’s hilarious:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!
