Wow! How is it that Christmas is just barely over a week away? Ask me if I’m ready, I dare you. The answer, of course, is uhhh…no! 😅 Since it is Monday, that, of course, means music! This week’s theme is “Christmas colors-inspired song picks.” There aren’t a lot of color-inspired songs out there, but some are certainly ‘colorful‘, so I’m going with that this week…heh! Let’s get this Christmas Color party started!

Let’s start with a song from this seven-time Grammy winner who released this song (and the album by the same name) back in 2017. When I shared this previously, I hadn’t been able to find any background information on it. I still haven’t. But like I said before – you’re going to love it as much as I do. 😉

Here’s a colorfully cool fan-made music video of TobyMac’s song featuring Owl City “Light of Christmas”:

Next up, a song that definitely applies to the ‘color’ of Christma, a song from one of my favorite bands I shared back in 2020 when this was released – the lead singer was making that dark year a little lighter with his Grade-A social media content, with the rest of the band getting in on the action. On December 10, 2020, they uploaded a cover of this song and paired it with a hilarious video.

The lead singer sings the iconic holiday tune while showing off his best dance moves dressed in a Santa suit. The bassist holds his dog, who’s dressed in a candy cane striped outfit, and keeps a serious face (reminiscent of Saturday Night Live’s classic “I Wish It Was Christmas Today” performance).

The lead guitarist plays guitar in a red and green striped onesie and hooded elf robe, and the drummer plays a pink plastic keyboard, donning a Santa hat and goofy outfit.

On the YouTube description, they wrote:

“we dug up this classic cover for your enjoyment.”

I’m so glad they did.

For your entertainment, here’s Imagine Dragons with “White Christmas”:

Next is a song I stumbled across this weekend – this new (to me) Los Angeles-based and San Diego native singer-songwriter has an incredible way of using her authenticity to connect with and evoke raw emotions from her listeners.

With her passion for songwriting evolving throughout every obstacle and turning point in her life, the artist’s real stories and edgy melodies expose a truly raw artist whose unique vocals have the energy to spark a heartfelt response.

The only info I could find about this song is the YouTube video was released on December 10, 2024, and it’s a song from the short film the artist did called ‘Christmas, It’s a Mariah Thing.’

Give a listen to Mariah Counts with “Believe”:

Last but certainly not least, holiday music is a funny thing. On the one hand, there are the old classics that we replay year after year — Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas,” Nat King Cole’s “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire,” Burl Ives’ “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas,” and so on. On the other hand, we have an ever-increasing repertoire of modern Christmas music, and every artist seems to feel the need to release a holiday album.

If it weren’t for modern Christmas music, we would never have been blessed/cursed with “Last Christmas” or “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” there’s no question that such songs can be a mixed bag. But this surprise breakout holiday hit comes from a somewhat unexpected source—an A-list star—and it’s simply delightful.

This particular song was released by a group (who sings along with this artist in this version) 8 years ago, and it’s a sweet song – but this version? Even better. This particular version was compliments of Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special—I know, you probably didn’t know there was one, and I sure didn’t until I stumbled across this song a couple of years ago. Of course I had to watch it, and loved the movie, too.

The artist admires the writer-director of the franchise, whose project perfectly fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon. The film has Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord in need of some yuletide cheer, so his Guardians pals cook up a plan to surprise the Footloose fan with the ultimate Christmas present: Kevin Bacon. He was quoted as saying:

“When he finally … sent the script, he said, ‘Oh, by the way, you’re going to sing in it.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, man, that’s amazing.’ That hadn’t even, like, occurred to me

He does have a great sense of music. I love that Old 97’s song, you know. What a challenge to write a new Christmas song … It’s cool. It really is.”

Get ready for some fun, here’s Kevin Bacon and Old 97s with “Here It Is Christmastime”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!

  1. This is only the second time I’ve seen the last video and I loved it so, although I am not familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy. The other song I really liked was the Imagine Dragons, and I found it interesting that they covered the Drifter’s iconic doo-wop cover of White Christmas.
