Whelp, another week has sped on by, and I’m no closer to being ready for Christmas than I was a week ago. Or two weeks ago. Or, you know, a month ago. Whoopsie! Looks like I’ll be scrambling at the eleventh hour again this year, frantically wrapping presents.
I wrap all the presents (family, friends, etc.), including the Santa gifts I got for myself so I have stuff to open from ‘Santa’ on Christmas, along with everyone else opening their Santa gifts (that I bought). Don’t get me wrong – the hubby buys me Christmas presents and even wraps them; I’m the one who buys everyone else’s presents and wraps them all. I think it’s time to recruit some people to help with the wrapping. Though I’m not sure I want to have the hubby help – he’s decided he’s going to put all my gifts in red garbage bags to save himself the trouble of doing any wrapping.🤦♀️
Currently, the living room looks like an Amazon warehouse instead of a festively decorated living room, what with all the stacks’o’Amazon boxes taking up more than a quarter of the floor space. And don’t get me started on the stacks of boxes all around the house that need to be dealt with – the time I had scheduled to deal with those annoyances was stolen by my klutziness of cracking my ribs consecutively.
I was out of commission doing any heavy lifting for about 8 weeks – all that precious time *poof!* gone in a heartbeat. I cannot even think about having any company over right now, as our house currently resembles a hoarder house. Well, OK, it’s not quite that bad, and of course, no piles of newspapers or magazines or garbage – just Too. Many. Boxes. Many of which were from our move way back in 2017. I know, right?!
I think, though, the difference over the years since we moved into this house is that what started off shortly after our move as a part-time (like 20-ish hours a week) job has grown into a seriously full-time job. Because I’ve been logging no less than 30 hours (on a rare ‘light’ week) to 40-50 hours (more typical lately) per week and making all the family meals daily (lunch when everyone is home during the day, dinner every night), and doing all the grocery shopping, and maintaining what I can around the house (not very well lately), and taking care of all the dogs and cats, I’m now stretched way too thin.
But I have amazing clients, so I wouldn’t think of cutting any loose and/or cutting back my hours at the moment. Plus, my independent income helps me buy all those aforementioned gifts. 😅 This week is of course a race to get everything done before said clients take their Christmas break. I’m actually taking off a few days around Christmas, as well as New Year, just to have a chance to reset and relax. Well, as much ‘relaxing’ as possible considering how busy those holidays are…heh!
One sad bit of news (which thwarted my plans to wrap presents over the weekend) is that my younger sister has been admitted to the hospital again. Remember she had that aneurysm just over 5 years ago? She’s been doing well since, in spite of having to be constantly on oxygen, her spirits have been amazing in spite of her limited mobility.
Well, she apparently started feeling ill last week, a day before her birthday, and her boyfriend ended up calling 911 the day after her birthday. She was transported by ambulance to the hospital and admitted into the ICU. Her oxygen levels for her entire body were dangerously low.
She is currently on 24/7 dialysis, as well as a myriad of other machines keeping her pumped with oxygen and drains to drain the excessive fluid around her organs. Her prognosis isn’t good – her doctor said she most likely will not leave the hospital. My older sister flew in from Kansas last night (Monday), and she, my mom, and I are driving down to Oregon tomorrow (Wednesday) to spend some time with my sister.
My brother and his wife were with her on Sunday, and my brother said she’s in good spirits, lucid, and still has her wicked sense of humor, so that’s encouraging. If you’re the praying sort, please say a prayer for her if you don’t mind.
Annnnnd… here comes Christmas:

This was such a fun and relatable read! It’s so easy to get caught up in the chaos of to-do lists, and I loved how you added humor to make the overwhelming feel a little lighter. Sometimes, taking a step back and laughing at the randomness of life is exactly what we need. What’s one random thing that’s been on your mind lately?
My heart goes out to you and your family with your sister in the hospital at this time, although there’s never, ever a good time. I’ll be praying and put her on the prayer list at church.
Thank you for cheering our spirits while you are going through both a festive and difficult time for all of you.
Front of the tree/Back of the tree made me laugh very hard…
