Hello, Monday – it’s Election Week here in the U.S. – the next few days will undoubtedly be… interesting. Since it is Monday, that, of course, means music! This week’s theme is “Pick a song(s) that has to do with your country, for example, songs about presidents, the pursuit of happiness, liberty, national pride.” Let’s get this country party started!
Let’s start with my all-time favorite male country star, whose patriotic sing-along cites ingredients that make up the American melting pot. At its core, this is really about our similarities and what brings our country together.
Here’s my boy Brad Paisley with “American Saturday Night”:
Next up is one of my favorite songs from this artist; it was the lead single from her first album ever, which was sold exclusively at American Walmart stores in conjunction with the then-teenage singer’s clothing line. The breezy summertime pop anthem features semi-autobiographical lyrics concerning the artist’s move from Tennesee to Los Angeles.
In the video, the artist pays tribute to one of her favorite movies, Grease, and she also wanted to pay tribute to her parents’ courting days. When they were first dating, they went to a drive-in in Kentucky called the Corral Drive-In – so the drive-in in the video was named after that as an homage to them.
In addition, the artist’s mom used to drive a ’79 black Pontiac Trans Am, Smokey and the Bandit style, so that’s the car that the artist arrives in.
Get ready to dance, here’s Miley Cyrus with “Party In The U.S.A.”:
Next up is a song that was the first single from this artist’s new album some years ago. When the song was sent to him, he loved it so much that right before he walked out on stage for a performance during that time, he thought he’d play the song solo acoustic to see what the audience thought.
Flash forward, and he said there’s no doubt that their response that day helped make it the first single from what would be his next album.
The song title resonated deeply with him, particularly since he considers it a poetic use of the three Johns and what each represents to him. The song also references many more well-known names, including John Wayne, Kris Kristofferson, Don McLean, and Marilyn Monroe.
The artist performed the full version of this song live on stage for the first time during the CMT Music Awards on June 10, 2015.
Without further ado, here’s the awesome Keith Urban with “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16”:
Of course, you can’t have an American party without a Red Solo Cup, right? I mean, I think there might be a law about that somewhere. So naturally, we need to include this song in the fun. Fair warning, though: this is the unedited version, so there might be some NSFW moments therein.
Here’s the late great Toby Keith with “Red Solo Cup”:
Last but certainly not least, is a classic hit, the name of the song also being the name of this artist’s seventh studio album. The album became one of his highest-selling records, featuring additional hit songs such as “Glory Days” and “Dancing In the Dark”. He’s also one of the first artists I’d ever gone to see in concert.
Give it up for Bruce Springsteen with “Born in the U.S.A.”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!
Now, onto the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:
I have the supreme honor and privilege of being a co-host with the inimitable Xmas Dolly and our musical cohort, the awesome Cathy from Curious as a CAThy, and Alana of Ramblin’ with AM!

Any playlist that includes the Boss …yeah, I’m a fan
Fabulous music, Stacy! I’m so happy and proud to be Born in the USA! May God bless the USA!!
Very nice songs. It is perfect for this week.
I am a big fan of Springsteen!
This is going to be an interesting week indeed.
I like these including Toby Keith even though he’s country. He is jovial. Keeping my fingers crossed that Harris wins.
As always, a great playlist!
This was a really fun post this week – a party is just what we all needed. The Red Solo Cup song, especially, is so funny, and the tune is an instant earworm.
