It’s Monday, and here in the Pacific Northwest, we’re in the middle of a heatwave. Not as bad as the horrible ‘heat dome’ we had a couple of years ago, but it’s dang hot – and without A/C, it’s exhausting. But since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s) and come dance with us, won’t you?
Let’s start with a brand new song from this favorite group – I couldn’t find much about this freshly released song, aside from an interview when he was asked about what put the frontman in the headspace to write it. He said:
“I’ve always struggled with anxiety since I was young, feeling just anxious. I’m an introvert, and my career requires me to be an extrovert. When I’m onstage, I am an extrovert. I feel free. It doesn’t feel taxing to me. I’ve never been nervous to be on a stage, but I’m extremely nervous in a party situation. I’m always want to escape to the bathroom and just kind of breathe.
I don’t know where that comes from. I don’t know if it’s just how I was born or a product of being Mormon and always feeling unresolved or unsettled or untrusting about my situation or leaders at church or something. I’m still sorting that out in therapy. I hear “Wake Up” as kind of an anxiety song. I want to capture anxiety and that feeling.”
Here’s Imagine Dragons with “Wake Up”:
Next up is a song that I stumbled across, an ‘unreleased’ song by this artist, and enjoyed listening to it, so I figured you might enjoy it, too. It appears she’s really getting back to her roots – you know, before her wild days, which seem to be in her rearview. 😉
Give a listen to Miley Cyrus with “Little Bird”:
Next up is a new song from this favorite artist. It captures the essence of young love as it follows two high school sweethearts’ romantic journey together. It opens with them sharing a passionate kiss in a car with windows fogged up before the reality of moving away for college sets in. While those years apart strain their relationship, true love prevails as they reconnect as adults in a long, warm embrace.
She said, ‘I don’t know about you / But I love you, miss you, mean it / I still see you when I’m dreamin’ / I just wanna feel you hold me again / And I’ve been countin’ down the minutes / I’ll keep climbin’ up these walls / Your kiss, I want it, need it / Love you, miss you, mean it, baby
About the song, the artist said:
“This song was special from the first time I heard it. I knew it would resonate. It’s about young love and that whole process of trying to make relationships work through the on-again and off-again cycles. My wife and I went through that journey during college and I know a lot of people out there have too.”
Give a listen to Luke Bryan with “Love You, Miss You, Mean It”:
Last but certainly not least, this favorite artist appeared on the fourteenth season of American Idol (back in 2015), finishing third in the competition. She’s gone on to make some excellent tunes since then—I love her! While she’s only released singles over the years, she recently released a full studio album (literally just released on June 28th!) that contains many of her popular singles, along with some new tunes that are equally awesome.
The album features interludes that capture her comedic style, all while showcasing her incredible songwriting. When detailing the process of how she wrote the album and what it represents, she described it as a “purge”:
“Welcome to the purge. I cut most of the “friends” out of my life, fired almost everyone, cried in isolation for a few weeks and wrote an album about what I was feeling. Dear Joe, is about heartbreak, growing pains, Hollyweird, and the predators of my adolescence…Every other song is a ukulele shower thought. This is my strange little first album. Ask your mom who Joe is.”
She wrote this particular song about her dad – mega goosebumps alert ahead!
Without further ado, here’s JAX with “too young to be old”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!
Now onto the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:
I have the supreme honor and privilege of being a co-host with the inimitable Xmas Dolly and our musical cohort, the awesome Cathy from Curious as a CAThy, and Alana of Ramblin’ with AM!
Want to join in the fun? It’s easy – just find a tune that rocks your boat, post it and link up – don’t forget to grab Xmas Dolly…er, um, I mean her button…over at her place here. Check out Xmas Dolly’s sidebar for the random themes we sport each week – and you can always ask for a specific theme of music you like, too. Check out the other music lovahs and let’s jam!
It’s hot here. I don’t know how y’all do it without an AC even it’s only for a short time. The good thing is summer will be in our rear mirror as fast as the seasons pass. “Too Young To Be Old” is such a tear jerker! Have a boogietastic week, Stacy!
Nice playlist
Great songs and I hope it cools down for you.
I don’t know how you can stand the heat without A/C! 🥵 There are heat waves everywhere, it seems. We are similarly affected here (Toronto area).
Excellent lineup of tunes! Imagine Dragons have a catchy beat and I love Miley, especially since
she decided to grow up and take herself a bit more seriously. Luke Bryan is cool and Jax has a great voice! I remember her from AI. That’s such a bittersweet song about her dad! It’s so hard to see our loved ones grow old and pass away. 💔
I’m 71 and “Too Young to Be Old” – that song just spoke to me so much. Absolutely my favorite this week although I also liked Wake Up Little Bird. (I, too, hope that Miley has outgrown the Bad Girl phase). I watched my mother in law grow old and now my co workers, some in their 60’s, are seeing that happen to their parents. The decline is so sad to watch. Jax’s lament is universal, sadly.
