It’s Monday, and we’re emerging from the excessive heat (finally!), so perhaps the house will have a chance to cool down a bit before the next round of hot weather. I’m ready for fall, y’all! Since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s) and come dance with us, won’t you?

Let’s start with a brand new song from this favorite artist – it’s right in the country superstar’s wheelhouse — independent, story-focused, and country as heck — but it’s clearly a step in a new direction, too. For one thing, the song features a co-writer that fans haven’t seen from her before, even though he’s very familiar. It’s the singer’s husband, whom she wed in early 2019.

He doesn’t have much experience in country music – he’s a former police officer from New York City who grew up very differently from the artist’s country-steeped childhood in Texas. But ever since he married into its A-List, he’s embraced the country format: He often accompanies her on red carpets and at industry events, and he starred in music videos for two of her songs. He is also a talented singer. A couple of years ago, he hopped onstage with her at her downtown Nashville bar for a karaoke-style duet of the Grease hit “Summer Nights.”

The artist said the song was inspired by her decision to leave Sony — her label home of 20 years — and make her next album under Republic and Big Loud Records:

“We were talking about how excited we were to be starting this journey with a new label family…and how supported we felt by them. Which turned into chatting about situations where you might not feel so supported by someone — in this case, an unappreciative Randy. So, this one’s for anyone with a Randy they need to move on from.”

Here’s Miranda Lambert with “Dammit Randy”:

Next up this artist has joined the storm-chasers club. There’s a slew of new music that dropped on Friday, the same day the new blockbuster movie, Twisters, was released in theaters. I know, right? I really want to go see that movie.

In this artist’s new music video for his new song from the Twisters soundtrack, the country star hops in his pickup truck to chase tornadoes himself.

Cause that highway to hell is the road I’m on / I need to turn around before I’m too far gone / If I’m ever gonna make it on them streets of gold / I gotta quit livin’ on a dead end road

In the music video, the artist is speeding down a dirt road to get to a tornado as they do in Twisters, which is a modern-day standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster film. The music video includes portions of the film with stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones as the singer belts out the lyrics while standing in a home that is being torn apart by the storm.

Give a listen to Jelly Roll with “Dead End Road”:

Next up is a brand new song from one of my most recent favorite artists, who was born and raised here in my home state of Washington! This song is apparently one of the more surprising inclusions on the new blockbuster 2024 Twisters: The Album soundtrack; his song is an intricate, heartfelt reflection on the power his lover holds over him as he endearingly underlines his undying devotion.

During an interview at the Twisters premiere, he explained that ‘[the song]’ arose from a two-week stint where he experimented with country and folk textures. The Washington native teased that he wrote a number of other songs during this period, which will hopefully see the light of day before too long.

Give a listen to Benson Boone with “Death Wish Love”:

Last but certainly not least, not much is written on this song, which is a collaboration between one of my favorite Canadian singer-songwriters and a new (to me) American singer, songwriter, and record producer of a hybrid of country, rap, R&B, gospel, and soul music. The Canadian singer-songwriter has sold over 100 million records, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time and the best-selling female artist in country music history.

This new song, which dropped on Friday (7/19), is yet another from the soundtrack of the new movie that also came out on Friday, Twisters. Mark my words; I’ll definitely make time to go see that!

Without further ado, here’s Shania Twain and BRELAND with “Boots Don’t”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!

  1. All new songs for me this week, Stacy! I always enjoy listening to Jelly Roll. He’s one artist that has surprised me. Shania Twain was on AI this year. She’s really lost a lot of weight. I don’t know if that’s by design or if she’s been sick. I thought she didn’t look well which made me concerned. Have you read anything regarding this? It’s always nice to visit and to listen to your music, my friend. Have a boogietastic week!
