It’s Monday, and today is the (sad) anniversary of the passing of my dad in 2019:

And the passing of my best friend of over 30 years in 2020:

We’re not going to dwell on the sadness, though; neither would want us to. And since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s) and come dance with us, won’t you?

Let’s start with this seven-time Grammy winner, who debuted his brand-new single just last Friday, the first release from an upcoming studio project (release date TBD). About the song, he said:

“I’ve had some of the most amazing times that one could ever have on this earth, and I’ve also walked through some things that have hit me very hard. I don’t think we’re that different from one another in that we all experience some beauty and some things that leave us utterly confused and deeply hurting.

I wrote ‘[this song] because I have been uptown and downtown; I have seen the good of this life and the sorrow by the bitter graveside; and I’ve landed on this: There is nothin’ sweeter in this life than the love of God. It’s what I want to wake up to and what I go to bed to – there’s nothin’ sweeter than his unfailing love.”

Here’s to TobyMac with “Nothin’ Sweeter”:

Next up is a breezy new single that was just released on May 24th. For over two decades now, this artist has blended country, pop, and rock with a dash of hip-hop flair that he grew up on, and now he is adding another song to his hit-filled discography. Coming just in time for summer, the island-flavored song is meant for kicking back and lounging by the water.

The song finds him at his most chill, mellow, and laid back:

Somewhere there’s a beach chair in the warm air / And a cold beer with my name on it

Give a listen to Uncle Kracker with “Beach Chair”:

Next up is a brand new song from this OG favorite artist. I didn’t find much written about it yet, but he did describe it in a video message explaining the song. He said the song is about

“…holding onto something maybe too long. A wave will come and push you in and pull you back out. You have to learn to let go. Hold onto the memories for as long as you can, but then move on. The past is there to remind you of what you don’t want to do again — let it go.”

Give a listen to Bon Jovi with “Waves”:

Last but certainly not least is a brand new song from this duo that captures the essence of aging and accepting that life is a constant battle. It teaches us to persevere and appreciate the significance of the lifelong struggle. The mention of the daughter’s dance recital signifies the realization that we have reached a stage where we witness our children growing up. We continue to fight for ourselves, but now we also have them to fight for, making it a meaningful journey.

Without further ado here’s Twenty On Pilots with “Oldies Station”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!

  1. Stacy,

I’m so sorry for the losses in your life. It’s apart of life none of us want to accept. I totally understand how you feel, especially with the loss of your daddy. My heart has been aching a bit thinking about Father’s Day approaching and knowing I can’t call mine anymore. Oh how he loved to talk! I hope I never stop hearing his voice in my head. Now on to happier things…music comforts the soul. Bon Jovi mentored American Idol contestants this past season. We finally finished it up last week and learned that the band dropped a new album this past Friday (I think). It was good to hear one of the songs from that album here today. Thanks for sharing it. I will need to listen to the rest of album if I can find it on YT now. I totally appreciate you putting up Toby Mac’s song because there’s truly “Nothin’ Sweeter” than His love. Sending love and hugs your way, Sweetie, have a boogietastic week! xo

  2. These anniversaries can be hard, but music has such power to heal. I remember when the place where I live banned Uncle Kracker from a festival after inviting him. It’s kind of funny now but times (and Uncle Kracker) have changed. His song, and Bon Jovi’s, were my favorites this week.
