Hello, favorite Monday peeps! We’re halfway through April, and it’s Tax Day. Did you get your taxes filed? I filed for an extension – always appreciate the extra time to make sure all the T’s are crossed and the I’s dotted, and if we’re getting a refund, it’s nicer to have that refund closer to Christmas to help with that budget. 😉

Since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s) and come dance with us, won’t you?

Let’s start with this American singer who released this song on April 4th as the lead single from her upcoming third studio album. The artist has maintained a constant presence in the music world since she burst onto the scene in 2018. In January 2023, the singer released her sophomore studio album and has continued to prove she’s more than just a one-trick pop star. Now, a year after her second album’s release, she’s already gearing up for LP number three. The artist posted on Instagram:

“I have been working on this record for the last six months and I couldn’t be more excited for it to finally be yours. The third era begins now.”

In the music video for the track, the artist is in her element, flanked by dancers and surrounded by nosy photographers snapping photos.

I’m like, ‘My oh my’ / Baby, this my kind of night / Flashing lights up on my body / Feels like ’90s paparazzi / I’m like, ‘My oh my’ / Baby, this my kind of night / Strangers dancing all around me / Feels like straight out of a movie

Fun fact: On March 28, the song was featured in an Instagram Reel posted by MLB Network to promote their coverage on the 2024 Opening Day.

Next up is a new song from this artist, who is known for breaking barriers and pushing the boundaries of country music; he brings his distinctive style and charisma to every track on his new EP, and the project is a testament to his ability to seamlessly fuse various genres, creating a sound that is uniquely his own. This new song is a feel-good anthem that radiates positivity and resilience. About the new album, the artist said:

“This EP feels a bit different for me. I’ve now traveled the world, looked death in the eyes and somehow made it back alive. Bitter moments never lasted, sweeter moments brought me back to purpose…Heartache & Lemonade brings about a new chapter. Try turning some of your worst moments into a smile every once in a while.”

The 39-year-old singer was involved in a near-fatal crash in August 2020 and suffered two broken legs, shattered wrists, and a broken pelvis but admitted that after making a full recovery, he is now trying to make sure that his mental health is in check above all else. He said:

“I feel better than I felt last year, so I think I’ll keep on getting better with the years. I already eat clean, so it’s a blessing in that and that’s a factor of life. But I try to make sure I keep my mental health that way. My body will follow.”

Get ready to dance, here’s Blanco Brown with “Sunshine Shine”:

Next up, is a new song from this artist that’s an empowering anthem inspired by mediocre dates. She conveys a message to men that she will no longer tolerate subpar treatment. The inspiration of the song is from a culmination of frustrating dates, “The last one was the final straw.”

The morning of that date, when she arrived at the studio to meet with her co-writers, they asked how her date went. She said:

“I immediately declared ‘TRAINING SEASON IS OVER,’ and like the best ‘day after’ debriefs with your mates, we had a lot of laughs and it all quickly came together from there.”

While the song addresses setting boundaries and demanding respectful treatment, it also delves deeper into the artist’s personal journey:

“I have never felt more confident, clear, or empowered. And while it may be that training season is never over for any of us, you start to see the beauty in finding that person to experience it with. You stop looking for the trainees and become more interested in having someone where you are and someone to grow with.”

Without further ado, here’s Dua Lipa with “Training Season”:

Last but certainly not least, one of my favorite groups kicked off a new era with this brand new song, released on April 3, 2024; it’s their first music since their 2022 album. This track is a genre gumbo, a musical stew with something for everyone as elements of alternative, rap, electronic, rock, and industrial mingle together.

Lyrically, this is a fight song about conquering adversity. The lead singer kicks things off with a rap-tinged confession – this guy’s been through the wringer. But then the chorus explodes and he declares himself invincible. Obstacles? He laughs them off, boasting he could do it all “with my eyes closed.”

The frontman said that this new song marks a return to the band’s roots. After a well-deserved break spent reconnecting with loved ones, he felt a renewed itch to crank out the kind of music that first sparked their fire. Of course, a decade on the road leaves its mark, and the world looks a whole lot different through the eyes of a seasoned rockstar. He said:

“But some things will always remain the same. It’s finding that right balance of nostalgia and freshness that brings me the most joy in the studio. We had a lot of fun making this one.”

Without further ado, here’s Imagine Dragons with “Eyes Closed”:

  1. Well the first three Ava, Blanco and Dua were all new to me so thanks for the introduction! All great.
Imagine Dragons yes I love them …. introduced to me by my eldest grandson 💜💜💜 have a great week 💜🥳

  2. Stacy,

You always bring to the dance floor new-to-my ear song picks. “Training Season” might be my fave track today. It has a great vibe! We got our taxes done a couple of months back and we got a meager return but it’s better than no refund or having to pay Uncle Sam, right? Have a boogietastic week, my dear! xo

  3. My Oh My sounded so familiar and sure enough, it is based on an over 100 year old tune called Arab Riff which isn’t copyrighted and has been used by a number of other artists but – no problem, I really liked that song. That and Blanco Brown were my favorite artists of the week. Both were new to me, too.
