Wow! It’s Tuesday again?! How’d that happen so fast? You know, everyone always says time flies faster and faster when you get older – any chance anyone happens to have a lead on the pause button?
My dentist had to refer me to an oral surgeon to remove the rest of the broken molar, and thankfully, I was able to get in and have it done last Friday. It went as well as could be expected—the infection in my gums around that nefarious tooth was worse than anticipated, and all I could think about was a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy in which Teddy collapsed after complaining about a toothache all day and avoided going to the dentist.
Teddy had bacterial endocarditis but ultimately lived after an emergent valve replacement. I’m glad I was able to get in when I did – the molar that broke right out of my mouth was abscessed, hidden under the crown. Of course, the infected tooth also infected the gums around it all the way down the roots and compromised my jawbone.
So after the surgeon worked hard to get out the remainder of the tooth with extra long roots, he did a bone graft to strengthen my jaw so 1) it wouldn’t collapse at some point, and 2) if I decide to get an implant back there, it’ll be ready. I might just get a partial, though; I haven’t decided yet.
I’m still feeling like I got punched in the jaw, but it’s getting better every day. I also apparently have two cracked crowns, so those will be dealt with in the coming weeks, but certainly won’t be as painful as the molar incident. It could be worse! At least the incision from my hernia surgery is healing really nicely, so I’m thankful everything is working out on a positive note. And I’m extremely thankful we have such great insurance that takes that part of the stress out of the equation. Now, if only my bruised vocal cords would heal so my voice could come back 100%. Baby steps.
I forgot to mention the eclipse from week-before-last – we didn’t get to see it here in our neck of the woods, but someone somewhere posted an amazing image in the South Pacific:
The image that was rampant on our local Facebook page was this (which pretty much sums everything up):
Of course, it’s not that bad – but close enough. Let’s jump into the funnies, shall we? This is hilarious:
