Hello Tuesday that feels like a Monday – for those of us who had Monday off for MLK Jr Day. I mentioned last week we were expecting a major snow storm – as the week progressed, the numbers kept going up, until midweek *poof!* the numbers took a nosedive. Instead, we ended up being surprised when we woke up Wednesday morning to two-inches of snow! That was unexpected. The hubby took this pic from under the overhang on our deck:
Our tiny town always looks postcard perfect during any snow events:
My pic is from two years ago – it was too dang cold and icy to go out on the deck and snap pics this time around. We did end up getting another round of snow on Saturday – the forecast went from 13-inches to zero inches, then back to 5-8 inches and the end result was about 4 inches. Crazy weather for sure!
The snow has been sticking around, though, since the temperatures have been staying in the low 20s and teens! We’re (finally) going to get a ‘warm up’ to – wait for it – 33 degrees for a high today! Woot! Of course throughout the weekend, this is what our local roads looked like:
The next system that’s coming later this afternoon (Tuesday) is a slew of freezing rain, which I am so not a fan of. But the warm-up will continue later in the week, it’s supposed to get to 50-degrees by Saturday, and of course be rainy all the rest of the week long. February is our snowiest month, so we’ll no doubt have more coming later, unless El Niño wakes up and remembers we’re supposed to be getting a ‘warmer drier’ winter this year. Time will tell!
Let’s dive into the funnies, shall we? Whenever there’s an impending storm, this is usually the case (can you guess which one I am?):
Hint: This is not me when a snowstorm is coming:
Meanwhile, since it’s been so bitterly cold, snowy and icy, I haven’t yet taken down the Christmas decor – if only this were a viable option:
Speaking of holiday decor… I have decided, though, that I really do enjoy having the pre-lit tree in my living room, and I’m going to leave it up through at least St. Patrick’s Day (since this year I went with all white lights) – I’ve never really decorated for those two holidays before… sure, a little something here and there, but not anything major, so I decided this year I’m going to make it fun. And it gives me a valid excuse to leave the tree up – even the hubby is on board with these new shenanigans!
I bought Valentine’s ornaments, St. Patrick’s Day ornaments, and even got tree toppers to swap out for both upcoming holidays. The ornaments:
I went with a Gnome tree topper for Valentine’s Day, since I didn’t find any legit Valentine’s ones (plus it’s not really ‘Christmas-y’, I could add a few hearts to him to make him more Valentine-y):
And I decided to go one step further, and swap out the Christmas wreath on the front door with appropriate wreaths. This one is coming for Valentine’s Day:
I haven’t found a St. Patty’s Day one that is calling my name, but I’m debating between these two:
I’m leaning towards the second one, because the first one has mixed reviews, with the most common complaint of it being all plastic, and not enough of the fake baby’s breath being on it to look like the image. The second one is fabric, I could always buy fake baby’s breath and enhance it. Or I’m even thinking of making my own – I’ve got time!
I’m even going to go yet another step and keep the white lights I have on the front porch with my pine garland, but replace the pine garland with Valentine and St. Patty’s garland:
I might decide to keep the pine garland up, and incorporate these into it (especially since I fastened the garland first, then wrapped the strings of lights – this way I won’t have to re-do the lights.) Once the garland gets here, I’ll see if it looks good with the pine – it might, since the pine garland is just plain pine, no ‘Christmas-y’ stuff attached to it.
I haven’t yet decided if I’ll do the same for Easter – I’m tempted, so I might see what I can find similar to what I’ll be doing for Valentine’s and St. Patty’s – I’ll be sure to take pics so you can enjoy the festive looks in the offing!
Now back to our regularly scheduled funnies program… This cracked me up – our Dept. of Transportation social media person always has the funniest posts – this weekend was no exception:

I think you should make your own wreath! Loved your funnies, especially the gingerbread house! Stay safe!
Calvin and Hobbes is a particular favorite of mine…
Heeheehee! You find the most clever funnies, especially Calvin and Hobbes.
Leave your tree year ’round, you can do Mardi Gras, patriotic for summer (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day), the possibilities are endless. I always wanted to have the kind of schedule that would allow such fun.
