Can you believe it’s already the second-to-the-last Tuesday of the month? I’ve said it many times before (and I’ll probably say it many times more), this month – and time in general – is flying by way too fast!
We’re still waiting for official spring to arrive here in the Pacific Northwest. Cold, windy and rainy is not what we’re used to this time of year. Of course, I’ll take that over the late snow and sudden heatwave we had last year – so far our cherry trees are still holding out blooming. It looks like they’re ready to burst forth any day, though, so as soon as the temps finally warm up, we should have ignition.
Saturday night the hubby played a 4-hour gig with the band he recently connected with – it was the first time in years I was able to tag along to enjoy the music and company of the other band wives. This week we have our weekly Tuesday TapTV Triva date night at our local BBQ place, then the following night we have another date night for a Paint and Sip where we’ll be painting this wild chicken:
I’m looking forward to seeing how much fun this ultimately is (and how the painting will turn out – I’ll be sure to share next week). Our tiny town isn’t a well-known town for most residents of the Pacific Northwest. At one time, this tiny agriculture based whistle-stop was a world leader, helping to feed a growing nation. The small town, with prime agriculture lands, was once a leader in egg production – it rose as high as second in egg production for the entire country before slowing down again.
Once a Northern Pacific Railroad construction camp, the town of Winlock became famous for its pride in poultry, a tradition it carries today. In 1923, to celebrate the completion of the Pacific Highway Bridge over the Columbia River, communities all over Western Washington planned a huge caravan, designed to showcase each town’s industries with decorated cars and floats. The route would drive from Olympia to Salem, and our town wanted to make sure they were noticed.
The manager of the town’s co-op at the time suggested that the town should be represented in this historic caravan by mounting a huge egg on the back of a truck. The giant egg was built with a wood frame, wrapped with canvas and painted white. The egg has seen a few different forms over the years, mainly due to the wear and tear caused by being outside in the elements. Its latest version is a fiberglass one that seems to be holding up really well. The egg is confirmed by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! to be the world’s largest egg and is a tourist stop for many who pass by.
In addition to the giant egg, there are chicken statues all around town:
The Paint and Sip proceeds are being donated to the family of a long-term resident of our tiny town who passed away recently – she was the one for years went around and painted all the chickens throughout the town.
Now it’s time to jump into the funnies! This cracked me up (and so true – us kids used to be my parents’ remote control when my dad reconsidered his ban of having a TV in the house as a ‘bad influence’ on us youngsters – then he heard about shows like CHiPs and Starsky and Hutch, and decided it would be OK to have a TV. Ironically, later in life he had one practically in every room of the house!):
This is very true (I have to be careful when stacking my 6-8 gallon wine fermenting buckets that there’s not a drop of moisture left before doing so…and even then, some days it’s a challenge to separate them again!):

I’ve long since realized the weather does as it pleases (or as The A-mighty directs) and doesn’t ask me, so my job is to deal with it. It’s not easy, but it does cut down on the stress.
Your funnies are always the best!
