It’s Monday, and some of us have today off as a holiday – my weekend has been spent with friends in a quaint Bavarian town in the mountains – more on that later. Meanwhile, since it’s Monday you know that Monday means music! This week is a freebie week, so grab your favorite tune(s) and come dance with us, will you?
Let’s start with a song that’s a clever ode to this artist’s work-life balance (like I’m finally doing this weekend!) The artist said:
“When I started recording the album I was learning how to be a working mom. I very literally had my hands full with formula and toys, while also being in the studio writing and recording. I realized from the outside looking in I made this all look easy. Similar to how we only post the good moments on our social media, I thought, ‘Isn’t it silly that moms are supposed to have it all together?’ My intention with this song is to let everyone out there know that even though they might be feeling overwhelmed, they’re doing a great job.”
After all promotion for her 2020 LP was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the artist welcomed her first child and soon went to work on her upcoming album due out Oct. 21.
“I feel like my songwriting is much better since I had a C-section. It’s like Title 2.0. It’s my old school. It’s true to myself in all the weird genres that I go to, but also modern with my doo-wop in there.”
Get ready to dance, here’s Meghan Trainor with “Don’t I Make It Look Easy”:
Next up is a brand new song from the brand new album that just dropped (and yes, I have my copy) that is full of 70s elements such as rock, folk, and pop-country that many singers at the time made famous. Once you hear this upbeat track, it’ll be hard to listen just once. Trust me.
Here’s Little Big Town with “Gold”:
Next up, this singer-songwriter is a major Pokémon nerd. He collaborated with The Pokémon Company last year for a “special performance” in Pokémon Go, recently promoted the 2022 Pokémon World Championships in London, and is a known enjoyer of the adorable water-type Squirtle. He professes to playing Pokémon Yellow and Silver on his original Game Boy Color to this day. But his and Pokémon’s bond is evolving with the release of this new song that not only features Pokémon in its official video but will also appear in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Did you follow all that?
In the video, the artist is plagued by Pokémon hallucinations: He has a fry up with Charmander, who helps him make food for all his imaginary Pokémon pals; he’s nearly hit by a London cab, but is spared death by a Snorlax; and after being struck by songwriting inspiration, he hitches a ride home from Charizard. From there, the artist goes full anime, and seemingly dies in an explosion caused by Mew and Mewtwo battling.
Fortunately for the artist and fans of modern radio-friendly rock, it was all a dream.
Get ready for some (crazy) fun, here’s Ed Sheeran with “Pokémon – Celestial”:
Last, but certainly not least, this artist is highlighting another track from his debut solo EP, and this time, it’s this jovial tune. The former Florida Georgia Line hitmaker released a fun-loving music video to go along with the track on Friday September 9th.
The song centers around the need for everyone to have a go-to bar where they can drink some beer, throw some darts and decompress on “Friday at 5:01.” Throughout the song, he describes this perfect hometown bar and stresses the importance of finding such a place by comparing it to a “cornfield” that “needs rain,” a “pickup” that “needs gas” and other examples.
Yeah, everybody needs a bar / A spot that they can go / A band they wanna hear / And a beer they wanna hold / A dart that they can throw / Some s–t that they can shoot / Everybody’s got a friend when you sittin’ on a stool
The song’s “unofficial” music video is just as fun as the song itself. It finds the artist opening a bar in a backyard garage called “Everybody’s Bar.” He and his band begin to perform the song inside the garage bar, and little by little, the neighbors start to show up. A man watering his lawn and a suited-up businessman are the first to drop everything to join the party, and soon, a crowd of people are enjoying a fun night at the artist’s bar.
Without further ado, here’s Tyler Hubbard with “Everybody Needs A Bar”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday! See you on the dance floor!

Hey Stacy,
I totally forget yesterday was Columbus Day until DH said something as well thanks to you and a few others in Blogosphere reminded me that it was also Thanksgiving Day for our neighbors in Canada. My goodness how this year is vanishing so quickly! I enjoyed your song picks for this week. I hope life is treating you well, darlin’. Have a boogietastic week! 😉
Two songs here I really enjoyed – Meghan Trainor’s and Ed Sheeran’s. Great songs and videos. Re Ed’s song, I’m not a Pokemon fan. But my son grew up with Pokemon, when it first became super-popular. He still has some of his cards, I think. This song will appeal to several generations.
Nice picks this week!
