Monday has arrived, and boy was our weekend a doozy! Our oldest ended up in Urgent Care on Friday, it took 26 hours to ‘get a bed’ at the hospital so an offending gallbladder could be removed yesterday morning. More on that tomorrow.

Meanwhile since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! For the month of October, our Spotlight Dancer is not one person but those who offered a theme suggestion. The theme selected for this week from our fabulous MMMM friend and participant, John from The Sound of One Hand Typing is: “In honor of Christopher Columbus, build a playlist of Italian artists/bands.” Let’s get this Italian party started!

Let’s start with an Italian actor, model, singer, and fashion designer appearing in both Italian and Polish films. He gained international recognition after portraying the role of Massimo Torricelli in the 2020 erotic romantic drama 365 Days.

This song tells us about a father’s love, longing, and desire to protect his children. The lyric video completes the story with the artist’s unique interpretation and voice. The video is like a cartoon, but while the stories flow in the video, it touches your heart.

Here’s Michele Morrone with “Angels”:

Next up is one of the most promising classical music artists in Italy, who started to play the piano at only 4 and wrote his first composition in 2007 at the age of 7! The same year, this Alba native began participating in concerts and piano competitions, later moving to Turin to perfect his art at the Conservatory.

In 2019, he made his debut with the single ‘Think of you’, quickly followed by “Rivelare”, a solo piano album with minimalist overtones. Welcomed by the critics, the album accumulated several million plays on Spotify and the song ‘Eterno viaggiare’ stood out among the others, exceeding a million of streams . In 2020, his single ‘Oltre’ was part of the “The Shape of Piano to Come” collection of the prestigious label INRI Classic and reached 500 000 streams on Spotify.

In 2021, he released three singles that led to his new album ”Moments”, which was promoted by a series of live streaming concerts. It quickly reached millions of streams on Spotify thanks to the very contemporary and serene style of the artist’s compositions. The 21-year-old pianist and composer recently released his EP “Una Notte” and has partnered with TikTok Italy, where he will curate his own classical music playlist.

Get ready for goosebumps, here’s Emiliano Blangero with “Risveglio”:

Next up, in the spring of 2021, during the internationally watched Eurovision contest, this band reminded Europe – and the rest of the world – that Italians knew how to rock hard too. And above all, they proved once again that a rock band singing in Italian could become a worldwide sensation.

In fact, this band has joined a long list of Italian artists who are internationally recognized precisely because they make a point of singing in their native language – and let’s not forget about world famous opera singers like Luciano Pavarotti or Andrea Bocelli. Italians have managed to make their own international styles, such as pop, jazz or rock, into local versions… which are in turn exported internationally.

Give a listen to Måneskin with “If I Can Dream (From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ELVIS)”:

Last, but certainly not least, this fashion crazy, but incredibly talented singer adores her Italian-American heritage. From an album with Tony Bennett to a dedicated performance for Frank Sinatra, this woman is one of the best artists in today’s music scene. She has won six Grammys and continues to dominate the music scene to this day.

Without further ado, here’s the inimitable Lady Gaga with “Million Reasons”:

That’s a wrap for this week – see you on the dance floor!

  1. Stacy,

You sure did have an overwhelming weekend. You don’t hear of someone as young as your oldest with gallbladder issues. My prayers go out for a speedy recovery. I liked your music picks. My favorite is Emiliano Blangero with “Risveglio. That’s really beautiful! I’m going to hop over to YouTube to listen to more of his music. Excellent discovery! Have a boogietastic week, dear friend!

  2. I hope your son is doing well and having an uncomplicated recovery. It was so hard picking a favorite in today’s post. If I had to choose I would pick between Måneskin and Lady Gaga although that piano solo was so haunting. I did watch Eurovision in 2021 (it was on the free Peacock) and fell in love with Måneskin. I’ve heard some of their hard rock since but this didn’t sound like anything I had heard from them. And, I had totally forgotten about them being Italian. Great playlist!
