Tuesday has arrived, and in case you were wondering, yes I am counting down the days until the first day of fall… only 9 more days! I think we’re finally done with our weekly ‘excessive heat’ – Saturday was the hottest for this last round, exacerbated by the excessive smoke coming from the wild fires east and south of us:

It was eerie – I was doing my semi-monthly grocery shopping Saturday morning, and as I entered the last store at 10:30am, there was a thin haze of smoke, but when I exited a little over an hour later, it was like someone pulled the blinds. The sky was a dark yellow-orange and the sun was trying hard to blaze through the smoke.

One of the wild fires is just 70 miles east of where we live – it was so cool to see people from our tiny town that have farms and space offer sanctuary for all sorts of farm animals and the people near the fires who were ordered to evacuate. The wind shifted from west to east on Sunday, which helped push the smoke back out of the area, though it has still lingered. We need a good dose of rain to not only wash the smoke out of the air, but help the firefighting efforts.

Last Thursday saw the end of an era – the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days is the longest of any British monarch and the longest recorded of any female head of state in history. I don’t know why her death hit me like it did, I’ve never been one to pay that much attention to the Royal Family.

Perhaps because recently I finally jumped on the bandwagon to watch The Crown and was hooked – it was cool to sort of get to know the queen from her childhood onward. Of course, taking the show with a grain of salt, I’m sure there were some creative licenses taken with some of the storylines, but still. I’m looking forward to when Season 5 starts in November, and sad that Season 6 will be the final season. I loved these images of the Queen that were going around:

May she rest in peace.

Let’s move on to the funnies, shall we? This is funny (and not me – I want to make sure Thanksgiving gets it’s deserved recognition. I do need to pull out my fall décor, I’m running behind on that score):

This totally cracked me up (and ewwwww!):

  1. The street names. LOL Like who’s on first. I can’t imagine being that close to the wildfires, but it’s nice seeing your neighbors being neighborly. I’m ready for fall, too!

  2. Heeheehee! That baby in the Lucky Charms reminds me of my own kids.

The Queen’s death has made me very sad, also. She was quite a woman in many ways.

I do hope you get some rain and an end to those fires very soon.
