Monday has arrived, and just when the weather temps returned to normal and the house finally cooled off, we’re back to another heatwave. Thankfully this round won’t last a full week-plus like the last one did, but I’ll be very happy when we’re not constantly ramping up to excessive heat.

This is why fall is my favorite season – I’m not a fan of too much heat…

Since it is Monday, you know that Monday means music! For the month of August, our Spotlight Dancer is our friend and stellar MMMM participant, Patrick of Adventures in Weseland! The theme selected for this week is “The Dog Days of Summer- Songs about the Summer Heat.” Let’s get this hot summer party started!

Let’s start with one of the biggest hits of the 80s, written for one of the biggest movies of the same period, which fits perfectly in this weeks theme.

Many remember ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ as one of the hottest movies of the 80s (pun intended), and this song was a perfect addition to the soundtrack (which also brought us Harold Faltermeyer’s Axel F). In the theme of the movie, the song is all about being caught up in the action.

Give a listen to the talented Glenn Frey with “The Heat Is On”:

Since Mother Nature has been inundating us with heatwave after heatwave, it’s already been a long hot summer…

KeithUrban

Speaking of hot… here’s Keith Urban with “Long Hot Summer”:

Next  is one of my favorite artists who literally wrote this song at one o’clock in the morning. It’s a song that is meant to look at one of those love affairs that happens over the course of a summer. Where a guy and a girl fall in love and realize that this is going to be the best summer of their lives.

BradPaisley

Fun Fact: There is some unique work with steel guitar on the song. Paisley explained that in one instance it was manipulated, “to where it sounds a little bit like a turntable. That stutter-step loop that happens in the beginning, that’s actually a steel guitar.”

Here’s my boy, Brad Paisley, with “Beat This Summer”:

Last, but certainly not least – I know I’ve shared this song again recently, but it’s totally perfect for the theme this week – who wouldn’t want to cool off during the hottest summer on record so far on a pontoon boat? I know I sure would.

Get ready to dance, here’s Little Big Town with “Pontoon”:

That’s a wrap for this week – stay cool, and see you on the dance floor!

Now on to the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:   Photobucket

I have the supreme honor and privilege of being a co-host with the inimitable Xmas Dolly and our musical cohort, the awesome Cathy from Curious as a CAThy, Callie of JAmerican Spice, and Alana of Ramblin’ with AM!

Want to join in the fun? It’s easy – just find a tune that rocks your boat, post it and link up – don’t forget to grab Xmas Dolly…er, um, I mean her button…over at her place here. Check out Xmas Dolly’s sidebar for the random themes we sport each week – and you can always ask for a specific theme of music you like, too. Check out the other music lovahs and let’s jam!

  1. Stacy,

In June we visited some old friends in the north east corner of Tennessee close to the state line. We drove to the lake and DH’s buddy showed us his boat. It’s a triple pontoon boat. I immediately thought of Little Big Town’s song that you featured which made me in turn think of you. Why? I guess because how often you’ve shared it over the years. 🙂 Great song collection for dog days of summer, my friend. Have a boogietastic week! 😉

  2. All good summer selections. Nothing like boating, something I rarely (well, almost never) do. The Heat is On was the only song I knew. I also enjoyed Keith Urban’s song.
