It may be officially spring, but here in the Pacific Northwest, we’re having an unusual winter week. The forecast called for snow this week, people! And boy, did it deliver – in an ironic twist of fate, we woke up Monday morning to 3+ inches of SNOW and no power:
I didn’t take a pic of our cherry trees in the backyard that were in full bloom, hopefully they’ll survive. The tree in our front yard had just burst forth with color as well, then got snowbound:
Poor plants! Apparently the power outage was widespread – the entire county was dark and cold Monday morning. There were trees downed everywhere, and transformers had blown. I couldn’t even get a cell signal to save my life. And no coffee. My camping gear is buried in the garage at the moment, I usually don’t start getting that organized until the weekend before Memorial Day, since Memorial Day weekend usually kicks off our summer camping fun.
So no access to my propane coffee maker – might have to consider keeping that at the ready year round, since we seem to get power outages in this area during inclement weather, and both the hubby and I need our morning coffee.
I remember as a kid, the latest we ever had snow was on March 25th. The specific date remembered because it happened to be my late dad’s birthday, so as kids we were telling him that it was his birthday present from Mother Nature. If I recall correctly, he was not amused… heh!
Here’s some more irony for you – last week was spring break for our school district (and was even sunny and 75-degrees last Thursday!) but the first day back to school Monday? Snow Day. How crazy is that?
Considering we’re lucky if we get snow in actual winter (usually too warm, hence ‘it rains all the time’ monikers from people not from here) let alone in the middle of April. Curious weather indeed.
Of course you know that it’s just a matter of time before we’re hitting warmer-than-normal temperatures – I hope we don’t revisit last year’s heatwave that broke records soaring into the 100s which is also not ‘normal’ for here. If I had to choose between too hot or too cold, I’d pick ‘too cold’ any day of the week. You can always layer to keep warm, but you can only take so many clothes off to cool off!
Easter is this weekend – I always appreciate when it falls ‘later’ in the calendar rotation so I have extra time to pick up all the goodies to stuff the baskets with I do every year. Though I’ve noticed (and this year is certainly no exception) when it falls ‘late’ on the calendar, I end up overbuying and the baskets will be literally overflowing. Real world problems, y’know? 🤣
And with that, let’s jump to the funnies, m’kay?

That little garden is beautiful and i want one of those signs for my front door.
Thanks for the great funnies, i do hope all your trees survive.
Snow? Wow! We’ve been up and down between 40 and 80 the past tend days or two weeks. Sweatpants and jackets in the morning, shorts and tank tops in the afternoon.
I love that garden photo! And you and I both have that alligator joke although it’s a different photo!
haha Laughed out loud at that “Let’s Gather at the River” joke.
The weather has been crazy here too. I’m ready for actual Spring weather already!
March 25 is my birthday, too!
After you put the lime in the coconut, you drink ’em both up… Everybody knows that…
The weather is getting weirder. One day we had 85 degrees and then the next it was raining.
