We have arrived to the middle of March – the Ides of March, as a matter of fact. What does it mean?

You’ve probably of heard the soothsayer’s warning to Julius Caesar in William Shakespeare’s play of the same name: “Beware the Ides of March.” Not only did Shakespeare’s words stick, they branded the phrase – and the date, March 15 – with a dark and gloomy connotation. It’s likely that many people who use the phrase today don’t know its true origin. In fact, just about every pop culture reference to the Ides – save for those appearing in actual history-based books, movies or television specials – makes it seem like the day itself is cursed.

But the Ides of March actually has a non-threatening origin story. Kalends, Nones and Ides were ancient markers used to reference dates in relation to lunar phases. Ides simply referred to the first new moon of a given month, which usually fell between the 13th and 15th. In fact, the Ides of March once signified the new year, which meant celebrations and rejoicing. And thus ends your history lesson for the day. 😀

It’s also not my favorite time of year – Daylight Saving Time. I really hate losing that hour every not-quite-spring (since those that are they moved it earlier some years back), it takes me a long time to acclimate to one hour less per day. Who am I kidding? I’m truly not back in sync until we get the hour back in the fall (also moved later in the year by those that are they…ugh.)

This pretty much sums it up as well:

Remember I mentioned last week was a crazy week? By the time Friday rolled around, I’d logged 53.25 hours, so I was beat! The Workshops I did with one of my clients last Tuesday were great – ironically the early morning group were way more lively and interactive than the evening group. Evening for us, morning for them – so perhaps they weren’t morning people. 😉 But all in all a success, and relief to put it behind us.

Now I’m ready for some funnies! With how tired I was at the end of last week (and still am), this is so true (and funny):

With the crazy escalating gas prices, this cracked me up:

  1. The start of DST messes with me, too. My suggestion for several years now has been let’s split the difference. Next time, the whole world changes their clocks by a half hour and we all leave it there!

Thanks for the laughs, i needed that.
