Can you believe it’s already Thanksgiving week?! Hopefully you all have fabulous plans with family and/or friends for the extended weekend.

Meanwhile, since it is Monday, Monday means music! For the month of November, our Spotlight Dancer is our friend and regular MMMM participant (and fabulous contributor), DRILLER’S PLACE! The theme selected for this week is “Songs that celebrate things we are thankful for.” Let’s get this Thankful party started!

Let’s start with the very first winner of Fox TV’s first American Idol competition during the  of 2002, where this artist went from an anonymous talent to a nationally known singer in a matter of months, performing for an audience of millions.

She has a lot to be thankful for, which is reflected in this sentimental song. And of course we’re thankful for her.

Give a listen to the inimitable Kelly Clarkson during her AOL Sessions in 2003 with “Thankful”:

It’s a tradition for me to share this next song during this week, because you simply cannot not have this song represent.

There’s so much to love about Thanksgiving: the piles of food, the expressions of gratitude, that uncle that still tries to get you to pull his finger, the four-day weekend, etc. And yet, this late November feast of gluttony is easily the most under-served among the major U.S. holidays when it comes to one important factor: its songs.

Christmas, of course, has more carols and novelty numbers than you can shake a giant candy cane at. Easter comes complete with “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” and a basket-load of hymns. Valentine’s Day has its love ballads, the Fourth of July has plenty of appropriate songs, and Halloween has the entire Danzig catalog.

Let’s face it: There’s only one Thanksgiving song deep enough to rep the multilayered joys of  Day.

AdamSandler

Here’s the ever-entertaining Adam Sandler with “Thanksgiving Song”:

Next up is one of my favorite country songs from the 90’s – it was released in June 1993 as the lead single from their album, and reached number-one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. It also peaked at number 17 on the U.S. Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.

I suppose it could be considered an earworm, but I’m certainly not complaining. And you’re welcome. 😉

Get ready to dance, here’s Sawyer Brown with “Thank God for You”:

Last, but certainly not least is a new song from one of my favorite artists (also an American Idol Alumni) – I found myself giggling while listening to it, I’m sure you will be, too.

Here’s the amazing Carrie Underwood with “Stretchy Pants”:

That’s a wrap for this week – see you on the dance floor!

  1. Thank you for shining the spotlight on Sawyer Brown. I had forgotten all about them. I think Carrie has a holiday classic on her hands. It’s going to be right up there with “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” Great playlist this morning.

  2. I know I put a comment here, but just in case… HAPPY THANKSGIVING My Friend, to you and yours and I pray you are all healthy and happy to your whole family. God speed to you and your whole family! Thanks Stacy for sticking with me all this time. You’ve been there since the beginning and I do appreciate that. Thank you soooooooooooo very much! God bless you girlfriend, and thanks for the updates on our girls and guys and the bands. You always seem to get it first and share with me. HUGS Enjoy your thanksgiving!

  3. OMG I never heard Carrie Underwood’s Thanksgiving Day GREAT SONG! I totally love this song that I’ve never heard. It’s really has a GREAT BEAT & the words are phenomenal. I didn’t know she had it in her. Thanks for sharing that one especially, but I shall never forget that one. So how ya be girlfriend we haven’t talked in a while. Then of course Kelly Clarkson dang that girl got some soul. Forgot all about that she hasn’t done a soulful song like that in a while and look how skinny she is. I sure wish she could get back down to that weight and I bet her producers wish the same. I heard the Voice told her if she didn’t lose some weight she was canned. Oh well, your other tunes are fab too my friend, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS. THE BEST OF EVERYTHING…. HUGS

  4. Stacy,

I just knew you’d share Adam Sandler’s Turkey song. lol What fun! Boy, I tell you I remember there was a time I wish I had some “Stretchy Pants” to wear for Thanksgiving. In my early years I always ate too much that it made me miserable. I’m so glad I don’t do that anymore. I do enjoy a good feast, though. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me and thank you for being such a good friend all these years, my dear! XOXO

  5. Kelly Clarkson – lovely song and nice crocheted top. Adam Sandler’s Thanksgiving Song has become a classic (almost as much as his first two Hanukkah songs.) The Stretchy Pants song is so perfect and what a beat it has- perfect for after dinner dancing to help digestion. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
