Hello Tuesday! Guess what?! We added another furbaby to our menagerie – meet Peppermint Patty:

Isn’t she adorable? She’s a Mini Saint Bernard (Nehi) and when someone posted that she needed to be rehomed on our local tiny town Facebook page, I couldn’t resist bringing her into our home. She’s a rescue – rescued from a life of abuse as a puppy (poor thing!).

The lady we got her from was the original rescuer, and while she would have loved to keep her forever, her daughter is allergic, so she’d have to be relegated as a full-time outside dog, and since the Mini Saint Bernard is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and Saint Bernard, the Cocker Spaniel side is a a hunter and retriever – apparently last week one of their free-range chickens decided to fly into the fenced area this doggy was in, so instincts kicked in and she killed the chicken. She didn’t eat it, just carried it around like she was so proud of herself.

Naturally the owner was concerned that this would now become a game to the dog, what with all the chickens running around outside her fenced area, and just felt it would be better if she went to a home that has no chickens, and where the dog didn’t have to reside full time outside. That’s valid!

We went over to meet her, and of course couldn’t resist that cute face! They said they named her Pepper because of the freckles on her forehead. Since she’s approximately 2 years old, giving her an entirely new name didn’t seem right, so I decided to modify it so she’d have a longer name like her brothers, Raymond Reddington and Maxwell Smart. Hence Peppermint Patty – she responds to her new full name as well as Pepper and Patty, so it’s a win/win!

She was very scared when she first got here, not sure what to think about all this indoor living luxury – she’s been sleeping on our bed at night (poor Max – he jumps up, sees her, then jumps right back down again – once they’re totally acclimated to each other, I guarantee they’ll both be up there. We might need to get a bigger bed!)

Of course Reddington was not happy about her arrival – when I set her down after carrying her weighty self into the house, he chased her right away like she was the opossum he had chased (and barked incessantly at) a couple of months ago in our yard. When I scolded him and told him to be nice, he kept his distance and kept eyeballing her, then came over and sniffed her up a storm. Now he tolerates her.

Max keeps trying to get her to play with him – but he’s so giant, I think he intimidates her, so she barks and growls at him. After only a couple of days she’s found her voice and keeps those boys in line…heh! I’m looking forward to her getting fully settled in and palling around with her brothers rather than keeping her distance like she does now – she stays glued to my side everywhere I go.

OK, that’s enough dog day afternoon talk – let’s jump into the funnies!

  1. Peppermint Patty is adorable! So glad she’s in a home where she will be able to go indoors and be loved. Your funnies cracked me up. Ghosts actually made me laugh out loud! And my childhood was the mom on the right. I think as a mom, I was also more like the one on the right but maybe not that severe.
