Monday has arrived – and you know what that means… music! For the month of November, our Spotlight Dancer is our friend Robin from Songbird’s Crazy World! The theme selected for this week is “In honor of Thanksgiving, songs that spell out the word “grateful”.” Sad to say I’m not playing by the rules this week, as I was overwhelmed with a long work week and didn’t have enough time to peruse the selections to pick out 8 songs for the ‘grateful’ moniker. Robin, please forgive me?

Instead, I opted with ‘thankful’ type songs in honor of Thanksgiving this week – I even went so far as to look up the difference between ‘grateful’ and ‘thankful:

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word thankful as “pleased and relieved.” Both of those are great feelings. … The Oxford Dictionary defines the word grateful as “showing an appreciation of kindness.” This is where the difference lies; being thankful is a feeling, and being grateful is an action.

So I’m pretty sure I will be ‘close enough’ right? Right?! 😉 Bottom line is I’m grateful for your indulgence, and thankful for each and every one of you! Let’s get this grateful and thankful Thanksgiving party started, shall we?

Let’s start with a song that pretty much sums up Thanksgiving 2020 – this song is for all the Grandmas who usually host Thanksgiving. The Holderness’s always bring a bit of levity to brighten anyone’s day, and we can certainly use that in 2020, no?

Without further ado, here’s the hilarious Holderness Family with their latest “Missing Thanksgiving – Aerosmith Parody”:

Next up is the very first winner of Fox TV’s first American Idol competition during the summer of 2002, where this artist went from an anonymous talent to a nationally known singer in a matter of months, performing for an audience of millions.

She has a lot to be thankful for, which is reflected in this sentimental song. And of course we’re thankful (and grateful) for her.

Give a listen to the inimitable Kelly Clarkson during her AOL Sessions in 2003 with “Thankful”:

It’s becoming a tradition to share this next song during this week, because you simply cannot not have this song represent.

There’s so much to love about Thanksgiving: the piles of food, the expressions of gratitude, that uncle that still tries to get you to pull his finger, the four-day weekend, etc. And yet, this late November feast of gluttony is easily the most under-served among the major U.S. holidays when it comes to one important factor: its songs.

Christmas, of course, has more carols and novelty numbers than you can shake a giant candy cane at. Easter comes complete with “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” and a basket-load of hymns. Valentine’s Day has its love ballads, the Fourth of July has plenty of appropriate songs, and Halloween has the entire Danzig catalog.

Let’s face it: There’s only one Thanksgiving song deep enough to rep the multilayered joys of Turkey Day.

Here’s the ever-entertaining Adam Sandler with “Thanksgiving Song”:

Last, but certainly not least, is one of my favorite country songs from the 90’s – it was released in June 1993 as the lead single from their album, and reached number-one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. It also peaked at number 17 on the U.S. Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.

I suppose it could be considered an earworm, but I’m certainly not complaining. And you’re welcome. 😉

Get ready to dance, here’s Sawyer Brown with “Thank God for You”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday and Happy Thanksgiving! Please stay safe and healthy!

  1. Stacy,

We’re all rule breakers sometimes. I sure do appreciate your little lesson telling us the difference between thankful and grateful. It’s feelings versus action. These days feelings seem to stand out more with me as well. Let me just say, I “Thank God For You” and all of my good bloggy buds. Life is so much more fun with you in it. Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving with your immediate family. Maybe you can do a virtual Thanksgiving with those you can’t congregate with on Thursday. Technology is something I’m very grateful for and I might just try to do that myself. Have a boogietastic week, my dear!

  2. I love your playlist. As soon as I saw the title of the post I wondered if you had found the parody on YouTube. It’s a very weird holiday this year.

  3. Well, there ya go I just spilled hot tea and I hate when I do it at my desk and EVERYTHING gets wet. So, hey girlfriend didn’t you get the email as to what the theme was this week. You would’ve loved it. Well, anyway great tunes here too. Just wanted to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving! Loved seeing Kelly, and what would a holiday be without good ol’ Adam Sandler. Also, Sawyer Brown he’s getting to be a regular on holdays. hahahaha HAPPY THANKSGIVING GIRLFRIEND. GREAT JOB!

  4. Nothing wrong with breaking a few rules. I enjoyed your set, especially Adam Sandler. So talented! I found out, in researching my post for next week, that Sandler wrote a quarantine song – it’s strange and touching at the same time – same as his Thanksgiving song.
