Family and Funnies: Random Tuesday Thoughts

My apologies for being a bit scarce the last week or so – last Wednesday or Thursday my sister had a hemorrhagic stroke. She’s currently at a Neuro Critical Care Unit with a drain on her brain to reduce the swelling and remove the excess blood. She’s been making a little progress each day, so we’re hopeful that while she has a long road of recovery ahead of her, that she’ll stick around for quite a while longer. Stubbornness runs in our family, so in this case that could be a good thing.

You really get a wake-up call when it’s a sibling, because of the closeness in age vs. a parent or grandparent. I suspect it’s even harder for my brother, because he’s her twin. She’ll apparently be at the NCCU for at least a week, possibly two, before she’ll be moved to a rehab facility for further PT and recovery. 

We’re hoping that she’ll do well in Physical Therapy so that she’ll be able to join in our joint birthday celebration at my mom’s house on December 8th. (My birthday is the 9th, theirs is the 12th). She’s currently unable to use her right side, but does answer questions correctly (how many fingers, what color is that shirt, names of the people in the room, etc.) so the doc is very hopeful for a decent recovery. Please keep her in your prayers – she can use all the help she can get.
