I had a sobering thought the other day. Summer break is almost here! How’d that happen?! Only 14 days left for one, and 16 for the other! Now I’m really regretting filling this week up with doctor and dentist visits for everyone, which has me running around like a crazy person and driving all over kingdom come. I should have made those appointments for the first week school is out – you know, because it would delay the plaintive cries of “I’m bored!” for a whole week.
I kid, I kid – when they do complain about being bored, miraculously their boredom disappears when I suggest they do something like clean their rooms, or vacuum the house, or do the laundry. Funny how their boredom seems to instantly disappear when I offer to have them do extra chores.
I’ve been so crazy busy that I didn’t end up planning our annual camping trip on Memorial Day weekend – you know, this upcoming weekend. That’s OK, though – my sister is coming to town from Kansas mid-June, so this will be the perfect weekend to stay home and do some spring cleaning. I know the kids are looking forward to that. Not. Mwhahahahahaha!
Sadly this weekend a dear friend passed away. He and his awesome wife were surrogate parents to me when I was living in Pennsylvania 3000 miles away from my own family, and he was lovingly referred to as “Papa Eddie” by Princess Nagger:
Sadly he was suffering from Alzheimer’s the last couple of years, so his passing wasn’t unexpected, but still very very sad. My heart goes out to Grammy Joyce, who lost her soulmate, and their four adult kids who welcomed us into their family as one of their own. I sure wish I could travel to Pennsylvania to be with them at this time, but my thoughts and prayers will have to suffice.
He will always be fondly remembered – not because he doted on Princess Nagger, but he and the hubby had a blast jamming together. Eddie was a phenomenal bass player, and the hours the boys played were some of the happiest my hubby has ever had. He will truly be missed.
OK, now it’s time for some random funnies – I know Eddie would appreciate the levity.
As school winds down, this is so very true:
This cracked me up:
I literally laughed out loud when I read this one:
This also cracked me up:
This is so true:
And then there’s this:
Funny story… when we lived in PA, we had a big chicken coop and got 25 chicks – which grew into awesome egg layers, but of course 3 of those chicks were roosters. Have you ever gone into a chicken coop to collect eggs? We re-purposed an old shed for the chicken coop, and didn’t have the type of nesting boxes to retrieve the eggs from the outside, so the hubby would go in to get the eggs. You know where this is going, don’t you?
Being that roosters are protective of the hens, all three of them went after the poor hubby, cornering him in the chicken coop. I was wondering what was taking him so long, so I went out to see him with one foot outstretched waggling his foot at them to no avail. Luckily I was able to distract the roosters so he could escape, and we had a funny story to tell forever…heh!
This happens so me, since I have naturally wavy hair that I straighten into submission:
This is why we’re going to need to set up some raised garden beds:
And finally, I’m going to leave this right here for you:

Loved your funnies! The bunny overlord, the frizzy hair, the wifi password. Good ones! And the story about hubby in the chicken coop was great! Wishing you a happy almost-end-of-the-school-year.
As always, the memes make me laugh! I really like the Alanis/Dale meme. So sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. Sounds like he was a great guy. Prayers to ya.
Stacy,
I’m sorry to hear about your second pops passing. It’s never easy losing someone you love. Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease as if growing old is fun enough then something like this robs you of your mind. Sending lots of hugs and prayers to you, your family, and Papa Eddie’s family.
WOW, it’s hard to believe school is almost out for the year! Well, I think it’s actually out here already. Once the kids leave the nest these sorts of things go right out the door with the last one. I can’t keep up with the school’s calendar anymore unless I make a point to check it out online. Often times I left smacking my head when I noticed more than usual the number of kids circulating general population on what I think is a school day to only later learn that they are out for some sort of break.
The bartender funny made me smile. lol Also, had to grin at the strong resemblance between Dale Jr/Alanis and Prince Harry and his new bride Meghan but it was the two guys that made me smile the biggest which is actually a remarkable likeness.
Thanks for the random giggles and fun today, my friend. Have a good week and thanks for hosting! 🙂
Chickens can be mean! Especially roosters. A friend of mine used to tell a story about a vengeful rooster — it ended up in the chicken and dumplings.
Great funnies, especially the password!
My condolences to you and your second Pop’s family. Even when it’s not unexpected, it’s just as difficult. You and they will be in my prayers.
That is so true about the school activities! This is our super busy week for everything and the kids keep coming home with new things I have to attend. Sigh.
We don’t have kids or grandkids, but I’d be tempted to do the Hallowe’en costume thing.
Sorry about the loss of your friend. The Dale Jr./Alanis was funny. I never thought like that. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
Great haha’s girlfriend!!! bwahahahahah and on a solemn note my deepest condolences on your dear friend! HAPPY, HAPPY MEMORIAL WEEKEND to you and yours… eat lots of goodies, shoot off fireworks, have tons of fun, but most of all be safe… BIG HUGS… AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!
