Man I tell you what – doing hyper-speed cleaning and de-cluttering of your house from top to bottom is exhausting work! Once we get this whole thing behind me, I’m gonna sleep for a week! Well, OK, probably not – but I’ll sure want to!

Meanwhile, it’s Monday, and Monday means music fun! This week our awesome fearless leader chose a theme of “One old commercial…or two if you like! If you’d like to post more get rid of those tunes that sticks in your head that you can’t get rid of”. Let’s get to the fun, shall we?

Let’s start with this classic 1973 commercial that includes the jingle that’s best associated with the brand. It’s definitely one that gets stuck in your head. I dare you not to sing along.

This next ad has gotten the most awards of any Coke commercial – and there’s quite a story behind the making of it. The inspiration for it came when the creative director on the Coca-Cola account was redirected on an international flight.

Many of the passengers were irate for the delay, but after a night’s rest he found them all sitting together laughing while drinking Coke and eating snacks. He says in that moment he saw Coke not as “a liquid refresher, but as a tiny bit of commonality between all peoples, a universally liked formula that would help to keep them company for a few minutes.”

He jotted the phrase: “I’d like to buy the world a coke” on the back of a napkin – and that’s how this commercial came to be.
