Hope y’all had a nice Easter weekend – it’s crazy how Easter seems to be as big as Christmas in the loot the kids get (I’m very guilty for contributing to the excess). I toned it down this year, though, and the kids didn’t seem to mind, so score!

Meanwhile it’s Monday, and Monday of course means music! Our talented Spotlight Dancer Patrick Weseland of Adventures in Weseland, selected this week’s theme – 5 songs (or the amount you want) about you! Yes, songs about you… that describe you! Let’s have some fun!

Let’s start off with a song that has been described as a “magical message”, and also a notable departure from this artist’s previous works. It’s also the perfect ‘beginning’ song for songs that describe me. You’ll see.

LadyGaga

What better place to start than at the beginning, right? Here’s Lady Gaga with “Born This Way”:

Next up is another song that hits close to home. The song was inspired by this artist’s oldest daughter and the teenage growing pains she was going through. Obviously, now that Princess Nagger is officially a teen, you see why it hits close to home.

The artist was quoted as saying:

“It’s interesting to me that there haven’t been other songs written about it, because almost everybody goes through it. I have an awesome relationship with my 16-year-old daughter, but about a year and a half ago, I started noticing a shift. It stopped being all about me and it was more about her friends. Which it should be. It’s perfectly normal. But as the person who was the center of the universe to this child, you go, ‘Oh. Well, this is a journey.'”

All three of artist’s children appear in the song’s music video. The proud mom was surprised “how natural they were.”

“I don’t think we could have casted actors who could have done any better. It was a lot to put on them – we didn’t have a rehearsal. They kinda just got thrown into it. Delaney especially has a flair for comedic acting. It really surprised me in that I had never seen her do that before. I loved sharing the experience with them. We’ll always have that.”

MartinaMcBride

Give a listen to Martina McBride with “Teenage Daughters”:

Next up is a song that fits perfectly, from the teenage angst going on under my roof right now, to the not-so-mythical “Seattle Freeze” I’ve been experiencing from some family members and former friends. It totally fits!

TaylorSwift

Give a listen to Taylor Swift with “Shake It Off”:

Next up is a song that fits me perfectly, considering I love making wine. I’ll be getting my “She-Shed” all ready this summer for room to do that in our new house, I’m chomping at the bit to get things going full grape again.

UB40

Here’s the timeless UB40 with “Red Red Wine”:

And finally, a song that is the epitome of me for those that choose me as their friend – I’m fiercely loyal, one who is on my friends’ side no matter what, ready to war with them and take on whatever obstacle life presents. Always a fighter and faithful sidekick through thick and thin. In other words, I’ll always Stand By You.

RachelPlatten

Here’s the gorgeous Rachel Platten with “Stand By You”:

That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday!
