Happy (day after) Valentine’s Day! Hope all of you who have a sweetheart had an outstanding day.
It’s Monday, but it kind of feels like Sunday since the hubby and kids are home today – perfect day to kick back and listen to some tunes, no? It’s a freebie week, so grab a favorite tune and dance along, won’t you?
Let’s start off with an artist who uses traditional gospel terminology in this song to communicate her love for music:
When I play the highway FM / I find my soul revival / Singing every single verse / Yeah I guess that’s my church
She got the inspiration for the song while in her car. She said she gets a lot of her songwriting done while driving around Nashville – sometimes it comes to me that way, she tries to write about that feeling, that connection.
The day before she got together with a writing partner, she was both emotional from a recent breakup and frustrated by her lack of a solid idea. So before getting on the plane for LA, she went for a drive with the radio turned up when the title of this song popped in her head.
She was quoted as saying:
“I was maybe looking for some sort of salvation in that moment on that writing trip. It was an escape for me – and not really a religious one, just something to get out of my own head. Country music is my religion in a way, that’s what I grew up listening to. When you think about Johnny Cash’s ‘Sunday Morning Coming Down’ and Hank Williams – where do I even begin with his catalog? – it’s church to me. And I know it is for a lot of other people, too.”
Here’s the cute and talented Maren Morris with “My Church”:
Next up is a fun group who just dropped their most spectacular – and daring – music video yet. Filmed microgravity over many parabolic flights in Russia, this video sets a new precedent for what’s possible as artists consider our future in space.
The group melds art, music and dance with their passion for science. They are celebrated around the world for tech-savvy choreography and unparalleled artistry.
Here’s the very talented OK Go with “Upside Down & Inside Out”:

Next up are twin brothers who are familiar faces on HGTV who just released their first single. With their warm tones and rich harmonies, they sing outdoors about loved ones returning home to each other, and from this video you will find such happiness when seeing that come to life.
When the two of them started their own home show on HGTV, there was no question they work great together seeing how much fun and creativity they brought to the table. Now that they have begun their music career, it really only makes sense. Not only do they value family, as clearly sung in their beautiful lyrics, they have supported each other throughout their lives which is encouraging to watch.
With their contagious smiles, and hardworking reputation, you can’t help but watch them sing with a sense of joy. No matter where you’re at in life, it’s never too late to chase your dreams, and these two have inspired so many with their new music career showing us just that.
Give a listen to talented The Scott Brothers with “Hold On”:
Last, but not least, is an acoustic sing-along that celebrates the fans that have supported the band through their good times and bad times. They have described this song as a “modern version” of the Carole King song “You’ve Got a Friend.”
They’ve said that more than anything the song is about the way the fans and everyone have created this massive thing – their group – over the past five years. Out of this song comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of this group.
For the music video, you’ll note that there are some extra voices during the chorus – the group brought in some of their fans to the studio to record a crowd vocal, which they thought only fitting because the song is mainly about the fans and what they’ve done. They felt it was important to have their fans involved to close out the album.
Without further ado, here’s One Direction with “History”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a great Monday!

And those brothers are something else and they do sound so good too!
Thanks for sharing.

Nashville is a good place to get country music inspiration. We were just there this weekend for my son’s grand opening celebration of his Mister Hats store on Gallatin.
Upside Down Inside Out is a fun song. I’d never heard it before. Same with One Direction’s song. Great picks.
