We survived Thanksgiving! It was pretty close, though, since Little Dude ended up having to go to the doctor the day before Thanksgiving to discover he not only had strep throat, but a burst eardrum, poor guy. Luckily we were at the doctor early enough so we only had to push Thanksgiving dinner two hours later so he’d be on antibiotics a full 24 hours and not generously give anyone else the plague.

I, however, wasn’t so lucky. Friday morning I woke up feeling like I’d been hit by a mac truck. I could feel it coming on as I cooked like a maniac Wednesday and cleaned the house, finally falling into bed at 2am Thursday morning, only to get up and continue the fevered pace to make sure everything was ready for our Thanksgiving guests.

I hoped against hope whatever it was that was lurking would wait until Saturday, since we had plans to accompany my brother and his wife and friends on their annual sojourn to obtain a fresh cut Christmas tree.

But alas, the plague decided to knock me for a loop a day earlier than I had hoped, so we didn’t get our Christmas tree yet. Little Dude was already back to his old self by Thursday, I moved around in a major fog all weekend long, even taking a couple of naps. Those who know me know I’m not a nap person, so you know I was feeling really rough if I actually took a nap. Which I did, twice.

I did manage to set up a nice Thanksgiving table, though – thanks to my Aunt Susie, who gifted us this awesome dining room table and chairs. I forgot to take a picture of the kids table, but suffice it to say, it was equally lovely:

I really need to get some window treatments for that room, and I still haven’t hung any pictures on the walls except one. Better get busy. Maybe by the one year anniversary of being in our new house it’ll look like we’ve lived here forever. You know, besides the disaster the kids leave behind on a daily basis that makes it look well lived in already.

Tonight we’re finally getting our Christmas tree so the rest of the decorating can commence posthaste. Looking forward to our first Christmas in our new house!

Speaking of firsts… Princess Nagger got a really cool and crafty scrapbooking kit from our awesome friend Alexis of Running Away? I’ll Help You Pack! for her birthday. PN started going through the kit over the weekend to try to make something cool and unique, and stopped short at one sheet of the stickers. Why, you ask? See for yourself:

Notice anything odd about the stickers? In particular the “Love” one? Here, let’s get a little closer look…

See it? A perfectly preserved fly under the sealed portion of the sticker. The hubby and Princess Nagger were joking that the hashtag should be #PetriFly…get it? Petrified Fly?

I know, I know…ewwwwww!

Speaking of ewwwwww… When I moved the maple garland off the mantle over the weekend to replace the fall decor with Christmas decor, I discovered a dead but ugly wolf spider hiding underneath. Thank goodness he was dead, because I don’t know what I would have done if he were alive and crawling:

Ugly ugly ugly! And I hate spiders with a passion, dead or alive. But it does make you wonder – how did he die? Was he old and decrepit and thought the maple garland was the perfect location to take his last breath? Or did he get stuck and couldn’t get out? Something to ponder. Or not.

Speaking of Christmas decorations (because you know that’s where I was going)… remember last week when I mentioned I’d seen the T-Rex inflatable and was contemplating going back to get it? This one:

My good friend Slon practically challenged me (not really, since her exact words on Facebook were “No. Just, no.”) well, in Barney’s words, “Challenge accepted!”  I went back and bought one. Princess Nagger is jonesin’ for it to get set up and annoy the neighbors, so hopefully that will happen this evening as well, since rain is moving in to the forecast for the rest of the week. Better enjoy the sunshine while it’s here!

And, you know, inflate a dinosaur.

That’s a wrap for this week – you know the drill, link up and join in the fun, everyone is welcome.

  1. I can’t but yet I can believe you bought the dino! Poor Fly didn’t have a chance. We are still fighting the critter fight here but we’re getting there.

  2. The spider is icky. We have far too many of them living in our basement. I’m not sure which is creepier–the fact that we have spiders in our basement, or the fact that we have enough other things in our basement for them to live on…

  3. Thanksgiving was fantastic! It was so nice to spend time with you guys! Indy had a blast, and I’m pretty sure my crazy little Han Solo did as well. That dinosaur still cracks me up. I saw one at…Walmart? the other day, and I laughed thinking about you.
I love to hang curtains and pics if you need help! Our menfolk can make music again and our children can..well, do whatever they do and we can decorate. And drink. <- Very important.
