Did you miss me? It seems like forever ago since I’ve done a ‘regular’ post, hasn’t it? I appreciate all of you who have been hanging in there waiting patiently for me to get my act together and return.
Tomorrow I’ll expound on all the craziness in random fashion, but today is all about music. This week’s theme is ‘British Invasion’, and not just the Beatles per last week’s Spotlight Dancer, Music That Inspires from the Man Cave. So let’s get to it, shall we?
Let’s start with a favorite (or should I make that ‘favourite’?) English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actress, who possesses the vocal range of a soprano and is noted for her high piercing vibrato, breathy tone and emotive delivery. She has stated that she is influenced by a wide range of genres from R&B, electronica, heavy metal, folk, hip hop, pop and classical.
Give a listen to the gorgeous Ellie Goulding with “Burn”:
Next up is a a British pop rock band that formed in early 2012 and signed to Mercury Records in November that year. They got their start when a few years ago one of them uploaded a bunch of cover videos onto YouTube, then another of the eventual group members found him, then another and another… The four are now poised for world domination.
One of them even rocked the supporting spot so hard during Taylor Swift’s “Red Tour” that he fell off the stage and literally broke his arm.
Give a listen to The Vamps with “Last Night”:
Next up is another of my favorite English singer-songwriters, which happens to be his fifth single. This music video for the song was released just last November (2013) and was inspired by the video to Robbie Williams’ hit single “Angels”. Robbie Williams was flattered by the imitation, and even made a cameo appearance in the video.
Here’s Olly Murs with “Hand on Heart”:
Next up is a Scottish DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer. While he’s obviously not British, he does hold the record for the most top ten hits from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart with nine hits, surpassing Michael Jackson, so he gets a pass. Besides, I like this song, and he did team up with Ellie Goulding for the music video, so she invokes the British rule here.
Here’s Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding with “I Need Your Love”:
That’s a wrap for this week – have a jolly good Monday! Cheers!
Now on to the particulars of Monday’s Music Move’s Me:
I have the supreme honor and privilege of being a co-host with the inimitable Xmas Dolly and our musical cohorts, Callie from JAmericanSpice, Cathy from Cathy Kennedy’s Blog, and Naila Moon at Just the Stuff Ya Know. Naila will be on vacation (lucky girl) for a little while, so our friend Danielle from Royalegacy will be helping us out. And a big thank you to Becca from Everyday Life for picking up the slack whilst my co-hort in crime Cathy and I were in absentia.
Want to join in the fun? It’s easy – just find a tune that rocks your boat, post it and link up – don’t forget to grab Xmas Dolly…er, um, I mean her button…over at her place here. Check out Xmas Dolly’s sidebar for the random themes we sport each week – and you can always ask for a specific theme of music you like, too. Check out the other music lovahs and let’s jam!
