February has arrived – and with it, the groundhog didn’t see his shadow.Β  So for those of you wishing for spring to get here sooner rather than later, you can rest assured that the bright lights and crazy crowds didn’t cause Phil to retreat back into his hole and declare 6 more weeks of winter.Β

Though I’ve always wondered how that truly works – after all, spring still doesn’t arrive for 6 more weeks according to my calendar, so how is it supposed to arrive early?Β  Inquiring minds want to know.

Groundhog

Of course all of Mother Nature’s hot-flashes have made spring show up during winter so far, she did freeze us out this past weekend with random snow flurries but is still being stingy with the amount of snow we’d really like.Β  In spite of Phil’s declaration of an early spring, Princess Nagger and I are still holding out hope for at least one good snow storm before winter is gone.Β

The last time we had a good snow storm was two years ago – the time before that was the winter of 2002-2003 when Princess Nagger was a newborn and obviously not prone to going outside to play in the magical white stuff.Β  Ahem.

Since we have plans to move back to Washington State this summer (and everyone knows it always rains in Seattle vs. snow), we’re hoping against hope that this final winter in Pennsylvania will be a repeat of the snow we got in February 2010:

Snow2-6-10jSnow2-6-10gSnow2-6-10nSnow2-6-10a

Because clearly having deep enough snow to create trench pathways to crawl around in and end up with a boot full of snow is a dream come true.

Speaking of a dream come true…or not – remember how I had a root canal in a back molar that needed to be redone?Β  Well, sometime before the holidays my dentist was going to redo it, but it was infected, so instead she drilled out the filling and packed it with antibiotics and refilled it with a temporary filling.Β  But then both of us forgot about the fact that the root canal wasn’t finished, and since my tooth wasn’t hurting I blocked it out myself.Β  Until about two weeks ago when the pain started up again, and slowly crescendoed to a major debilitating tooth ache.

To make a long story short (because really, what transpired over the course of all last week really deserves its own blog post) I finally got in to see a ‘professional’ Friday afternoon and he patiently took care of my finicky extra long (and curved) roots and now my excruciating tooth ache is finally gone.Β

I was a little out of it all week (hence the reason I was a bit scarce last couple of weeks) – I had been ready to just take a pair of pliers to it by the end of the week, and especially after my dentist spent 2 hours last Wednesday trying to get it done for me, but she didn’t have the proper equipment to deal with my problem child tooth.Β  Luckily the ‘professional’ she sent me to was able to get it done so I could finally be mostly pain free.Β  My jaw still aches a bit, but it’s nice not to have that stabbing tooth pain any more.

In other news…Β  I have Princess Nagger’s Kindle Fire set up through one of my email accounts (so I can make sure she’s not downloading ‘improper’ apps to it, and so she can’t order anything and spend money she shouldn’t be spending since she doesn’t have any to spend).Β

I had ordered Minecraft Pocket Edition for her Kindle for one of her birthday presents, and she mentioned that in the Android and iPad ‘store’ a new update was available – but not so for Kindle… yet.Β  I told her to wait a week or so and check again, and much to my surprise I got an email that she apparently left her very first review on Amazon.Β  I got a good chuckle out of it and thought you might, too:

This review is from: Minecraft – Pocket Edition (App)
“I got this game for my birthday, and it was still in 0.5.0. ACTUALLY its now in 0.6.0. But amazon is slow so there is no shown update in this store… they’ve added sighns and nether stuff but no nether? what’s wrong with that? honestly, its an amazing game, no doubt. there’s armor in the new update too. too bad I have to wait a while, but the gameplay is great and paintings are in. now, I gotta go… I have a mountain to paint.”

I didn’t change any of the spelling or correct the grammar – I wanted you to see it in its original form so you’d have the same chuckle I did.Β  Especially since the reason she left a review is because she hopes that because of her review, Amazon “will ‘wake up’ and make the update available already.”Β  I sure love that kid.

That’s a wrap for this week – link up and join in the fun, everyone is welcome, random or not. Be sure to visit your fellow randomizers so they don’t feel so lonely.

  1. Oh Lord! I am NOT a fan of snow. It’s bad enough that I have to be in it once a year while we visit Michigan. I don’t like to be cold. Brrrr! Good luck getting your snow fix!!

Speaking of fix, I’m glad you got your “roots” repaired. Tooth aches are no bueno. I have to take a pill to relax me if I ever need work done. My body doesn’t like the numbing stuff and I can almost always feel everything. OUCH! Gives me anxiety just typing about it!

As always, thanks for the shout-out!! xoxo

    1. When I move back to Washington State you’ll be able to come for a visit and never worry about getting too cold! πŸ˜‰

Tooth aches definitely are no bueno – I forgot to take some Advil before I went in, so just as they were wielding that big needle to numb my mouth my heart starting racing like nobody’s business. Luckily the numbing was quick albeit painful. πŸ™‚ They usually have to give me 3 times the ‘normal’ dose to actually numb me, though – I’m resistant to the numbing stuff (inherited from my dad – along with the crazy long roots…my mom gave me my soft teeth. I’m such a lucky girl.)

    1. Thanks Gretchen – and yes, thank God it’s over! Getting a crown will be a cake walk. πŸ™‚ My hope is seriously fading for one last crazy winter before heading ‘home’ to the new climate – they’ve gotten more snow there all the years I’ve been here in PA, you know it’ll completely stop once I get back there. At least that’s what my aunt is banking on. πŸ˜‰ I’ll pass along your adoration to PN, she’ll appreciate it! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks Camille, I’ll pass that along to PN! πŸ™‚ Our beautiful dork dogs are Shelties – a Blue Merle and a Red Merle. The breed is often described as mini collies – though Rolex, the Red Merle isn’t so ‘mini’ compared to Travis the Blue Merle… he’s 45 lbs to Travis’ 40 lbs. πŸ˜‰

  2. Princess Nagger has the journalism bug! The intrepid consumer reporter…awesome!

I had to have a root canal on my back molar a few years ago. Excruciating–I am glad you have found relief!

    1. LOL thanks, Tina! She’s been making comments about wanting to start doing her own reviews – I think she has quite the bright future on wordsmith-ing! πŸ˜‰

Those back molars are the worst for root canals – it’s hard for the dentist to get in there, and the molars have up to 5 canals to take care of vs. just one like the front teeth. Excruciating is an understatement – it’s nice to have relief at last! πŸ˜€

  3. I love how Princess Nagger believes her words are strong enough to make a company act. I hope she never loses that belief (the expectation to be listened to.) Oh, teeth. I just want to get mine pulled and get dentures. I don’t see what’s so wrong about that. My dentist disagrees. And the snow. Whoo boy. We haven’t gotten more than a few inches the entire winter in DC. I can’t imagine a bootfull.

    1. I’m right there with you, Arnebya – PN believing her words are strong enough to make a company act is something I hope she hangs on to for a very long time! πŸ™‚

My dentist says the same thing – the longer you can hang on to your ‘real’ teeth, the better…something about them providing nutrients and whatnot. πŸ™‚ We’ve only been getting dusting to an inch teasers this winter, too – I’m SO hoping for enough to create a boot-full before we move to where snow is a rarity. πŸ™‚

  4. Hey Girl: So busy, but I took a break to come & say hi! I have a miserable tooth ache too! I hate those. Those, tummy aches and headaches. The chronic pain is a whole other story! πŸ™ So are you going to be my confidant with this WordPress stuff? I may need some help. Well as they say practice makes perfect…? Live & Learn??? Well you know trial and error hahahahaha Hugs & have a great day!

  5. There are so many reasons why I love your post but one of them is that I find I agree with so much of what you have to say. I LOVE snow, LOVE snow days…LOVE playing with the kids in the snow, building forts, snow angels, coming in freezing and starving and heating hot chocolate…just love it!

    1. Thanks Vandy – it’s an understatement to say I’m glad they got resolved, too. πŸ˜‰

I love that Turbo loves Minecraft, too – and I especially love that you don’t really get it, because I don’t either! πŸ™‚ PN will go on and on about it, and all I hear is ‘blah, blah, blah…isn’t that great, Mama?” πŸ˜€

  6. Hearing about your tooth problem makes me so nervous. Jacob has to have a root canal on both sides of his mouth and he’s only seven and they knock kids out for procedures like that but I’m afraid he’s going to wake up after the first one and be to terrified from possible pain after to go for the second one a week later. I hope you’re feeling better love!

  8. Somehow I missed linking up on Tuesday! I guess things have been a little too hectic here.

We are supposed to get some of that storm tomorrow too. It looks like Stacy in NH and my parents are due for A LOT. The kids have been sledding a couple times this winter but that’s it. We only have a dusting on the ground now, not enough for fun. At least it covers up all the sad brown grass.

Nice review by PN! If that doesn’ get Amazon back on track with updates, I don’t know what will. Good for her! J-Man and Sissy are huge Minecraft fans too.

  9. That snow is beautiful but so are the sunny skies and thermometer outside my window that says 79!

I hate anything that has to do with my mouth. I am embarrassingly late for my 6 month cleaning, I really need to take care of that but … hey, what’s that shiny thing over there?

    Thanks for joining the party!
