We’ve started doing Family Movie Night each weekend – either Friday night or Saturday night, depending on schedules. Finding a good family movie that appeals to everyone can be a challenge. When both kids sit still to watch a movie from start to finish (and the hubby doesn’t doze off), I know it’s definitely a good one.
We had the opportunity to watch Jeremy Fink & The Meaning of Life, and I’m happy to say the hubby stayed awake, and the kids were mesmerized. Even Little Dude, who can’t sit still longer than 30-seconds at a time, was enthralled with this movie, setting some personal records for his attention span.
SYNOPSIS: A month before his 13th birthday, Jeremy Fink receives a mysterious wooden box in the mail with the words “The Meaning of Life – for Jeremy Fink to open on his 13th birthday.” It has four locks, but the keys are lost. In order to find out what secrets lie within the box it’s up to Jeremy and his best friend Lizzy to use their imaginations to search high and low throughout Manhattan for clues.
Their adventure takes them from flea markets to science museums meeting wacky and interesting characters along the way. Each encounter unlocks a clue to bring them closer to finding out the contents of the box and ultimately discovering the greatest secret of them all.
Based on Wendy Mass’ children’s novel, the engaging movie Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life stars Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino and Emmy Award winner Joe Pantoliano and was released on DVD March 6th.
Jeremy Fink & The Meaning of Life is a movie about friendship, growing up and valuing life, but it is also a movie full of adventure and treasure hunting, which will have kids of all ages sitting attentively and wondering about the next step.
Princess Nagger was especially intrigued by the whole treasure hunting aspect (and of course loved the science museum part), and even wants to make her own treasure box and treasure hunt. I love that it inspired her creative mind. I highly recommend this movie for a Family Movie Night – and it’s definitely Princess Nagger Approved.
