I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day.  I’m a romantic at heart, but the hubby?  Not so much.  Though I must say, aside from the office chair he got me for Valentine’s Day last year, he’s gotten much better over the years on putting forth good effort in the romance department for this hyped up Hallmark holiday.

This is actually the first year he hasn’t asked me what I’d like, or had Princess Nagger ask for him – so I’m not sure what he has up his sleeve, but I’ll keep you posted.  He’s surprised me a lot in recent years by getting me things that I’ve mentioned casually in passing would be cool to have – proving he does listen.  I did get him a schmoopy card and some fun gifts – of which I won’t mention yet, because once in a blue moon he’ll read my blog, and I couldn’t tell if the moon in the sky was blue or not.  So you’ll have to wait.  Just in case.

Princess Nagger told the hubby she wanted a diamond ring for Valentine’s Day.  What can I say, the girl’s got good taste.  After we both had a chuckle over that one and agreed she needs to be a little older before getting a diamond (or, as the hubby put it, get a diamond ring from a special guy waaaaay in the future), we opted for her second request, this white dragon:

While not a diamond ring, I think she’ll love it almost as much.  And I’m sure the prerequisite Valentine-ish stuffed animal and chocolates will also go over really well with her, too – but we’ll most likely get the title of Best Parents Ever with the Dragon, and I’m pretty sure since she’s been nagging me to get one since before Christmas, the diamond ring will be a distant memory at least for the day.

It’s a short week for Princess Nagger this week – they’re off school from Friday until next Wednesday – she’s psyched for a 5-day weekend.  She apparently failed her eye exam at school, so I’ve made her an appointment with a real eye doctor on Friday (yeah, nice going Mom, making an appointment on her first day off).  For some reason she’s actually looking forward to possibly getting glasses – when I was in to have mine adjusted about six months ago, she was over at the kid glasses wall trying on random frames, and even picked out a pair she wanted me to buy just so she could wear them ‘as-is’, with glass non-prescription lenses.  Because they look ‘cool’ on her.  Since they were $100 I declined.

I told her not to jinx herself because she’ll be doomed to wear some form of corrective lenses at some point, since both the hubby and I are near-sighted.  I’m glad she’s not adverse to wearing glasses if she has to, but I also wonder if she failed the letter test at school on purpose so she could get glasses.  Hence the ‘real doctor’ appointment since she can’t fool those funky machines.  I’ll keep you posted.

Oh, an update on  the skulking stray cat Princess Nagger was hoping we’d adopt.  He must have figured out what we were up to, because we haven’t seen hide nor hair of him (literally or figuratively speaking) since that one night.  I think Princess Nagger is disappointed, but I have to admit I’m not – especially since hubby said no more stray cats (when he’s the one who found the last two.  Sucker.)

Yesterday was the hubby’s last day of his horrendous split shift.  I cannot tell you how happy I’m going to be to stop having to be in constant foggy brain syndrome from lack of sleep.  Not to mention his midday breaks coming home to take a nap have interrupted my routine (and Little Dude’s penchant for playing instead of napping has been worse since he knew Dada was in the room napping next door) so now I’ll be able to go back to a ‘normal’ routine.  Sure, we’ll still be getting up at 5:30 every morning, but since I’m a morning person I’m fine with that.  And even more fine with him being at work all day   but home for dinner.  Normal is nice.

That’s about it for this week – here I thought as I sat down in front of my computer I had nothing to ramble on about.  Glad my brain decided to spout off after all.  Feel free to link up and hop around to all the other awesome randomizers – they’re all so entertaining. 1. I only have a few things to say.. but they’re all awesome.

Dragons > Diamonds. ALL OF THE TIMES!

I’m glad you have your husband back, I know how bad it sucks to have a different version of him.. and to not have a semblance of normalcy in your life.

Glasses are cool, but I wish I could’ve passed the exam. I couldn’t SEE the exam to even TRY faking, though. They caught me. I hope all is well with your little one’s eyeballs. My parents hate that mine is going downhill so fast. They blame themselves. I blame the MTV. (bad joke)

Valentine’s Day this year for us consists of me cooking all day and night to prepare this super awesome meal that NO ONE will thank me for, picking out my own present (and paying for it), then picking out another one as a joke and getting it.. with a glare, and my kid telling me she doesn’t want to make cookies and cards with me because I’m a loser compared to her Dad.

I hate Valentine’s Day. With passion.

  3. Princess sounds like me.. All I wanted were glasses, until I jinxed myself and really needed it.. Oh, and I probably would have wanted a diamond ring for Valentine’s day when I was her age… She is the cutest!

  4. That is one cool dragon. Princess Nagger should be thrilled.
We have had Turbo in for a “real” eye exam since he started school. Since I wear lenses and Nick wears glasses his chances are great that he will need them. I really wanted to stay on top of that one.

  5. Happy Valentine’s Day!
This morning, I was looking over what Sprite was going to wear to school and I noticed the white leggings had soiled knees. I asked if she saw it.
    “No.”
“You don’t see that? That’s dirt. You shouldn’t wear this to school.”
    “I don’t see it.”
“Well, I see it. And it looks dirty.”
    “I need glasses.”
“No, you don’t. Your vision’s fine.”
“No, I need glasses to see dirt.”

  6. Oh Princess Dagger is my kind of girl. If it sparkles, I’ll like it. I don’t have a gift yet but we’ll be leaving soon for Texas so maybe he’ll come home with something for me. If not, it will be a long drive to Fort Worth. His gift was amazing so I have high expectations. I know, I’m not right in the head. He should probably divorce me.

Thanks for linking up sweet cheeks! xoxox

  7. My girls are drooling over non-prescription glasses as well. What is that about? You’ll get the glasses soon enough, everyone on both sides wears them.
I am trying to channel my high expectations for Valentine’s Day into providing a fun Valentine’s for my kids. Because the husband is not a fan.

  8. My story is somewhat similar to yours. My girlfriend is very romantic and I’m totally the opposite. But she manages to surprise me every Valentine and make me fall in love with her more and more.
How was your Valentine this year? And what did you get for your hubby?

    Thanks for your lovely gift.
    Happy Valentine’s Day.

  9. hahaha I must be weird…. I’m kind of thinking that an office chair would be nice. More comfortable than my dining room table chair I currently have to sit in… LOL 🙂 And yeah, the girl has good taste….

  10. You have a lot going on!
I’m interested to see what you get! We don’t do V-Day, but when it comes to gift giving, MacGyver blows me out of the water.

    That dragon rocks! Seriously!

Yay for the end of the split shift.

  11. I’m excited to hear about what your hubs got you/what you got him for Valentine’s Day! Hope you guys have a blast celebrating! And that is too cute that your little one is excited for glasses. I was definitely wayy embarassed to be sporting those when I had to get them in 2nd grade. But now looking back, they were definitely not that bad. Should have worn them with pride, like Princess Nagger will if she needs them! Have a happy love day 🙂

  12. I hope you got something equal to a dragon in appeal!!!!! How about Pokemon DIAMOND for a game system or DS for PN? A poster of a baseball diamond? Diamond walnuts (I got my parents those and Pearl olives for their diamond/pearl anniversary…special, I know!)

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

  13. Hope you had a nice Valentine’s Day. My husband surprised me with a bouquet of flowers and a slice of carrot cake which I’m eating for breakfast since it’s been one of those mornings!

I’m glad PN opted for a dragon instead of a diamond ring and your schedule is back to normal. It’s so hard to get things done when your “schedule” gets messed up with people being home during the day when they usually aren’t!

  14. To me Valentine’s Day is a day that puts unnecessary stress on the man that doesn’t think like woman and makes the single person feel unwanted and crappy. That being said I love the chance to buy for my girls to show them they don’t need a relationship to make them happy because their Daddy and I love them more than anyone else ever will!

Thanks for linking up, you know we love you every day not just on this “special” day!

  15. I hope you had a great Valentine’s Day. We did here… but you wouldn’t know it by my lack of blog updates!

Tara also wanted glasses so bad when she was about six. We found out while in FL she needed them for seeing the board at school, but soon after we started the home schooling thing. She got away from wearing them lost one, broke the other, and failed the test again at school this year – so now she is decked out in new glasses. She looks great in them, so has no problem wearing them!

  16. This is a late comment for a Valentine post but hope Princess Nagger’s eye check up results turned out ok. 2 out of my kids are near sighted…I’m not but my husband is. Anyway, I got my favorite dark chocolates for Valentines Day.
