I can’t believe we’re already heading into the final week of September – somebody’s apparently using that fast-forward button irresponsibly.

It’s time once again for Monday’s Music Moves Me – this week is a freebie week, so I’m sharing the top three songs I’ve been dancing along with this week.

First up is a favorite artist of mine, Rodney Atkins with his Top 40 song “Makes Me Want to Take a Back Road”:

Makes Me Want to Take a Back Road Lyrics
Rodney Atkins

Sit in that six lane backed up traffic
Horns are honking, I’ve about had it
I’m looking for an exit sign
Gotta get out of here, get it all off my mind
And like a memory from your grandpa’s attic
A song comes slippin through the radio static
Changing my mood, a little George Strait 1982

Chorus
And it makes me wanna take a back road
Makes me wanna take the long way home
Put a little gravel in my travel
Unwind, unravel all night long
Makes me wanna grab my honey
Tear down some two-lane country, who knows
Get lost and get right with my soul
Makes wanna take, makes me wanna
Take a back road

I’ve been cooked up, fried down, about forgotten
What a field looks like, full of corn and cotton
If I’m gonna hit a traffic jam,
Well it better be a tractor man
So sick and tired of this interstate system
I need a curve and wide a twistin’
Dusty path to nowhere
With the wind blowing through my baby’s hair

(repeat chorus)

Bridge
Maybe it’s the feeling or maybe it’s the freedom
Maybe it’s that shady spot
Where park that truck when things get hot
They were park the truck when the things get hot

(repeat chorus)

Some old back road, get right with my soul
Now all I gotta do is take some old back road
To the shady spot where things get hot ooh
Way down, way down, way down some old back road

Next up is another favorite artist of mine, Brantley Gilbert – with his Top 40 song “Country Must Be Country Wide”:

Country Must Be Country Wide Lyrics
Brantley Gilbert

Grew up south of the Mason Dixon
Workin’, spittin’, huntin’, and fishin’
Stone cold country by the grace of God

I was gasin’ up the other day
An old boy pulled up with a license plate
From Ohio; thought “Oh, good Lord, he’s lost”

From his Wranglers to his boots
He reminded me of Chris LeDoux
And that Copenhagen smile
Yeah, country must be country wide

In every state, there’s a station
Playin’ Cash, Hank, Willie, and Waylon
In foreign cars and four-wheel drives
There’s cowboys and hillbillies
From farm towns to big cities
There ain’t no doubt in my mind
Country must be country wide

It ain’t where, it’s how you live
We weren’t raised to take, we were raised to give
The shirt off our back to anyone in need

We bow our heads before we eat
Before we start our day, before we fall asleep
‘Cause in God we trust, and we believe

And we see what’s wrong
And we know what’s right
And ol’ Hank, he said it all
When he sang “Country Folks Can Survive”

In every state, there’s a station
Playin’ Cash, Hank, Willie, and Waylon
In foreign cars and four-wheel drives
There’s cowboys and hillbillies
From farm towns to big cities
There ain’t no doubt in my mind
Country must be country wide

In every state, there’s a station
Playin’ Cash, Hank, Willie, and Waylon
In foreign cars and four-wheel drives
There’s cowboys and hillbillies
From farm towns to big cities
There ain’t no doubt in my mind

In every state, there’s a station
Playin’ Cash, Hank, Willie, and Waylon
In foreign cars and four-wheel drives
There’s cowboys and hillbillies
From farm towns to big cities
There ain’t no doubt in my mind
There ain’t no doubt in my mind
Country must be country wide
Amen

.
And finally, a favorite group – with their Top 40 song, here’s Eden’s Edge with “Amen”:

Amen Lyrics
Eden’s Edge

I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that
You finally got rid of that girlfriend
You finally came out of that love coma boy
I’ve heard Mary Jane at the powder-puff beauty shop
Sayin’ that blond in her tube top
She left our Jimmy for a boy in Illinois
Someone give me an amen,
Someone give me an amen.

[Chorus:]
Can I get a Thank God Hallelujah
You finally saw what she was doing to ya
Your mama called it she was right
Glad to see you saw the light.
Whole town yeah we hooped and hollered
She drove away nobody stopped her
Na na na na na na, I’ll say it again
Someone give me an amen.

Yeah right, like I really coulda said something
You wouldn’t heard it if the train was coming
Had your head so high in the clouds
Oh why, I had a really good reason
For hiding my feelings but now I can finally spit it out
Someone give me an amen.
Someone give me an amen.

[Chorus:]
Can I get a Thank God Hallelujah
You finally saw what she was doing to ya
Your mama called it she was right
Glad to see you saw the light.
Whole town yeah we hooped and hollered
She drove away nobody stopped her
Na na na na na na, I’ll say it again
Someone give me an amen.

I’m standing right here in front of you
I think I love you too
Can I get a Thank God Hallelujah
Baby do you believe it, do you?
Your mama called it she was right
Glad to see you saw the light.
Whole town yeah we hooped and hollered
The preacher’s son and the farmer’s daughter.
Na na na na na, I’ll say it again
Someone give me an amen.
Someone give me an amen.
Na na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na na na

  1. Well, You have done it again, 3 songs I haven’t heard before! I am always hearing such great tunes thanks to you.

I too have had my last week on Fast Forward! I can’t believe it will be October in a few days!

Take care and thanks for having me!

    Best wishes,
    Natasha.
    xo

  2. I can always count on you to bring a few new country tunes to perk up my ears. I love the rhymatic use of words and not-so-country sound today’s country music has. It reminds me so much of 80s pop music. If the truth be known, there is more talent amongst country music entertainers than the rock n’ rollers of today.

Dance on over to my place next, if you have time!~Cathy

  3. Love your tunes! ….. the line “Put a little gravel in your travel” so true! Thanks for the great tunes and for hosting another fun Monday!
Have a safe and happy week.

  4. I want to smack that person with the fast forward button … lol 🙂

GREAT pick’s my dear! I think I love the last one the most.

P.S. The fair was so much fun. The Puyallup Fair is so amazing!

  5. Amen. At last! Some of us (like me for instance) need a poke to realize a few realities of love. Nice selection. I like Rodney Atkins – Take a Back Road.

  6. Thanks for keeping us current on the country hits because your Music Monday posts are the only time I actually listen to it. 🙂

Thanks for the Music Monday shout out! Keep on rocking, mama!

  7. Your songs are always so versatile & sometimes I never know what to expect, but country is never a surprise. We’re more into rock & roll over here, but I love slowin’ it back sometimes and hear a good ol’ lovin’ song! Can I get an “AMEN”! HUGZZZZZZZZZ Thanks for hosting along with us!
