Our vacation is finally coming to a close. Tomorrow morning we hit the road to head back to PA from Iowa. It’s been a fun 2+ weeks, but now it’s time to get back to reality and the dogs. We’ll once again be splitting our 17-ish hour trip between two days, just to maintain what sanity we have left, along with making sure we actually make it home in one piece.
Princess Nagger is looking forward to getting home so she can immediately plan a play date with her friends that she’s missed while gone. Of course her first order of business is to clean her room – that she’s not looking forward to. At least the rest of the house is nice and clean, I think it’s the first year we’ve left on vacation that we didn’t leave the house in disaster mode – probably because we were having a friend house and dog-sit for us while we were gone, and I’m funny about leaving the house a mess when someone will be coming over.
The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the laundry that will need to be done when we get back – I’ve been spoiled with my sister having central air and not walking around like a wilted flower all the time, like I’ll be doing at our house with our random window air conditioners trying so hard to keep things cool. Laundry is not one of my favorite things, add to that a room with no air conditioning to do the laundry in, and I’ll stall as long as possible to get it done. Usually when we return from a long vacation, particularly if it’s a road-trip vacation, it takes me a day or two to finally get back to ‘normal’ and muster up the energy to tackle the waiting laundry.
Which brings me to this week’s question(s):
What’s your favorite (or least favorite) thing about the end of a vacation? Do you tackle the laundry right away, or do you procrastinate a couple of days like I do?
Have a great weekend!

I am a Procrastinator!!! I don’t even unpack right away.
I normally start unpacking straight away after we return from a trip after settling the kids. Laundry is first on the list. Next comes planning for the next holiday.
We got home Tuesday from a long weekend visiting my brother and his family. While the boys went out to get dinner, I unpacked and tossed laundry into the wash. I do not usually do it that quickly. On the flip side, in March we went to Disney World. Our shorts and t-shirts sat for weeks before I washed them since it was so cold here and we didn’t need them.

Ugh – post vacation laundry. No fun even when the laundry room is air conditioned!
I tackle it right away to get it over with : )

Hmmm End of a vacation huh? Well, first thing I want everything in the house. I empty the car. Then I put my laundry by the machine, and then sit in my favorite chair & put my feet up because I know I’m glad to be home!
Holy cow- the laundry when you get home is such a nightmare!!!!
Have a great drive!

You are like me. I hate leaving my home a mess when I leave and clean right up to the last minute! This frustrates the dh.
And when we get back, I change all the sheets 🙂
The princess sounds like she is doing it as it should be done eh 🙂
I love the end of a vacation because I get to use my own toilet ..ahhhhh
If it’s a great vacation, then I”ll miss it, if not I’d wish I was on a plane to get home faster.
Laundry get’s tackled when I feel guilty of the loads sitting around..it’s like you have to kinda push yourself into it again.

I can’t do laundry right away because I never unpack right away! My favorite thing about the end of a vacation is getting to sleep in my own bed!
My least favorite part is coming home, lol. I fully believe I belong at the beach, so coming home to the mountains is just….depressing.
i don’t mind the laundry—its unpacking the luggage that i hate. i may or may not have let a suitcase sit unpacked in my bedroom for a few weeks after a vacay . . .
I bet it was an awesome two weeks. I was in Europe for three weeks and we had to pay over $450. for laundry service, what a rip off!!! Have safe travels.
I hate unpacking. As a matter of fact, I have not unpacked from last weekend’s trip to Delaware for my daughter’s wedding. All I’ve done is remove the shampoo, deodorant, etc. from the bag because I needed it!.
I hate unpacking and all the laundry that ensues. I usually get started on it the next day though or it seems overwhelming as more piles up. I have to do laundry every day of my life around here. With 6 of us, it adds up quickly. I don’t enjoy it, but it’s a fact of life that I’ve made peace with….most days.
Glad you had a wonderful break! 🙂 Safe travels!
I dread unpacking. However, I usually just throw all the clothes into the hamper and my husband does the laundry.

Usually when we vacation we go to a condo that has laundry in our room…it’s great because I come home with suitcases full of clean clothes…but they do have to be put away and that sometimes I do procrastinate doing.
