When I think about wishes, right away I think of the childhood wishing rhyme, “Star Light, Star Bright First star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might Have the wish I wish tonight.”  Or the Jiminy Cricket Song from Pinocchio – “When You Wish Upon a Star…Makes no difference who you are…Anything your heart desires…Will come to you…”

Raise your hand if you’ve ever wished upon a star.   Pretty much everyone, right?  A friend of mine always said “If Wishes and Dreams were Candy and Nuts, it’d be Christmas every day”.   I’ve often found myself repeating that to Princess Nagger if she’s pushing for something that just isn’t in the budget right now.  You know, like a Nintendo 3DS.  How do you tell an 8-year old her wishes just aren’t in the budget?

I don’t have to wish for a great vacation, because so far our vacation couldn’t be better.  You did know we’re on vacation, right?  Oh, sorry – we’re hanging out in Corn Country (aka Iowa).  Well, OK, if I’m being honest, it’d be even better if we were all hanging out on the sandy beaches of the Caribbean – but for now, the back deck of my sister’s house is a good runner-up since we’re surrounded by family.

If we’re talking about big wishes, and if money (and time) weren’t an issue, I’d love to tour the wine country in Italy – you know, since it’s known as the ‘birthplace for most wines’. I’ve always enjoyed a good wine (duh), and Italy does produce some great ones.   Since I make my own wine, going to ‘the source’ would be a great learning experience…well, that and I could drink lots of Italian wine! And who wouldn’t want to see this in person:

And drink copious amounts of this:

I can definitely understand the passion that winemakers have and the need to learn about all sorts of different grape varieties and which grapes make a better wine. Being able to experience that in person would be a dream – or wish – come true for me.

“Who said that every wish would be heard and answered, when wished on the morning star? Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it, look what it’s done so far. What’s so amazing that keeps us star gazing? And what do we think we might see?” Author Unknown

Have you wished upon a star lately?  What’s your wish?

This Wishful Spin Cycle was brought to you in part by Jen, who as Sprite’s Keeper probably fields a lot of wishes from/for Sprite. Stop by and check out the other Star Gazing Spinners – you might find you’re wishing upon the same star!

  1. Oh, my gosh – it all looks so lovely where you are! I, for one, wish you have a marvelous time – and drink some wine for me!

  2. It can get funny with kids indeed… My son wanted a mobile phone so bad and he did not get the whole thing really when we told him that we think he was too young to have one. His answer was: OK, then I’ll wish for a mobile phone from Santa. He’ll give it to me, because he sees deep into your soul and sees your true wishes :D.
It was just a funny situation!

  3. They say not to express your wishes–but that makes it harder for them to come true. Hope you get your wish and a trip to Italy is a wonderful wish.

  4. I hope you get to fly away to Italy soon. I have never been but my father-in-law is from Italy. He talks about it as if it were the promised land.

  5. My daughter lives in Burlington. Maybe you could stop by there and give my cutie pie grandson a hug for me. ~hehe~ Yes, it’s beautiful down there. I’m so glad you’re having a good vacation. My wish would be that this woman would call the hubby for this new job he wants closer to home in case I should need him & besides where he works it’s a very unsafe environment (long-story). He hates it there so much. This new job is close to home & he won’t be working for this jerk. Oh well enough sad notes – take lots of pics so you can show off more when you get back – miss you! HUGSSSSSSSS

  6. Those pictures are lovely!

I would so LOVE to go to Italy! On my list of top 5 places I want to see before I die.

  7. Italy does sound like a good wish. I sometimes wish I could afford to travel abroad and go somewhere for a month at a time.

    Thanks for your Spin!
