Well, looky here – it’s Monday, and the world didn’t come to an end over the weekend.Β Another major non-event like the whole Y2K fiasco.Β Well, maybe not as bad as that one was, I think more people were inclined to believe the world wasn’t coming to an end, because the dude that predicted it has been wrong before.Β Maybe third time will be the charm…or not.
Since we’re still alive and kicking, how about some fun music?Β Since this week’s theme is no theme, aka Freebie Week, I thought I’d pay special tribute to a couple of my favorite artists who happen to have recently gotten married.Β And no, the world didn’t come to an end when they got married, either – unless you have a huge crush on either Blake Shelton or Miranda Lambert and all your hopes and dreams were crushed when they tied the knot last weekend.
This first song was performed by the two of them for CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets back in 2005 – it happens to be the first time they met, during the filming of the show.Β Of course the rest, as they say, is history.Β You can see how smitten Blake is with Miranda in this video:
You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma Lyrics
Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert
There’s a full moon over Tulsa,
I hope that it’s shining on you.
The nights are getting cold,
In Cherokee County.
There’s a Blue Norther passing through.
I remember green eyes and a ranchers daughter.
But remember is all that I do.
Losing you left a pretty good cowboy,
With nothing to hold on to.
Sundown came and I drove to town,
And drank a drink or two.
You’re the reason God made Oklahoma,
You’re the reason God made Oklahoma.
And I’m sure missing you,
I’m sure missing you.
Here the city lights out shine the moon
I was just now thinking of you.
Sometimes when the wind blows you can
See the mountains,
And all the way to Malibu.
Everyone’s a star here in L.A. County,
You ought to see the things that they do
All the cowboys down on the Sunset Strip
Wish that they could be like you.
The Santa Monica Freeway,
Sometimes makes a country girl blue
You’re the reason God made Oklahoma,
You’re the reason God made Oklahoma.
And I’m sure missing you.
I work 10 hours on a John Deere tractor,
Just thinking of you all day.
I’ve got a calico cat and a 2 room flat,
On a street in West L.A.
You’re the reason God made Oklahoma,
You’re the reason God made Oklahoma.
And I’m sure missing you,
I’m sure missing you.
The next song is pretty funny – a more recent duet from the two of them, which Blake jokingly describes as their ‘life story’.Β I couldn’t find a decent video of it, so this is just the audio with a picture of Miranda showing off her engagement ring:
Draggin’ The River Lyrics
Blake Shelton, featuring Miranda Lambert
(Blake Shelton)
Hey, baby I just asked your daddy
If I could take your hand.
He said, “Boy, over my dead body”.
Guess I ain’t his kinda man.
(Miranda Lambert)
But, I love you and
You love me.
So, baby I gotta plan.
We’ll push my truck off a
Red Top Bridge,
Right below the Jackson Dam.
Hey, they’ll be draggin’ the river.
Catchin’ nothin’ but an ol’ catfish.
They’ll be draggin’ the river.
That’ll show that son of a bitch.
(Blake)
It’s been rainin’ for the last two weeks,
So the water’s up good and high.
We’ll just wait ’til it’s good n’ late,
So there ain’t nobody passin’ by.
(Miranda)
I’ll call my cousin.
He’ll pick us up an’
Take us to the Greyhound Bus.
We’ll be standin’ in front a that preacher
By the time they’re lookin’ for us.
And, they’ll be draggin’ the river.
But, they ain’t gonna find a thing.
They’ll be draggin’ the river.
I’ll be wearin’ me a diamond ring.
Ah, we’re gonna show ’em.
(Blake)
I know that it might sound crazy,
Just a little bit too extreme.
But to get somma your sweet lovin’, baby
I’d do anything.
Sooner or later
They’ll find my letter.
Sayin’ that we’re alright.
We’ll be rockin’ at the Red Roof Inn
This time tomorrow night.
And, they’ll be draggin’ the river,
Sayin’, “Lord, what a cryin’ shame”.
They’ll be draggin’ the river.
We’ll be runnin’,
They’ll never see it comin’.
They’ll be draggin’ the river.
They’ll be draggin’ the river.
But, they ain’t gonna find a thing.
(Blake)
“Sorry about callin’ your dad a
Son of a bitch, earlier.
Hey, do you think he’ll still hire me”?
(Miranda)
“Whoa, that thing’s little.
The diamond I mean”.
Next up we have a fun song from Blake, Kiss My Country Ass – written by Rhett Atkins, this is a song Blake wanted to do because he says it describes him perfectly:
Here’s link to the official video (that they don’t let you embed, but it’s such a fun video): Kiss My Country Ass – Blake Shelton
Kiss My Country Ass Lyrics
Written by Rhett Atkins, performed by Blake Shelton
Tearin’ down a dirt road
Rebel flag flyin’
Coon dog in the back
Truck bed loaded down with beer
And a cold one in my lap
Earnhart sticker behind my head
And my woman by my side
Tail-pipe’s poppin’
the radio’s rockin’ “Country Boy Can Survive”
If you got a problem with that, ha ha!
You can kiss my country ass
Well, I love Turkey calls, overalls, Wrangler jeans
Smoke nothin’ but Marlboro reds
Tattoos up & down my arms,
And deer heads over my bed.
My Granddaddy fought in World War Two,
My Daddy went to Vietnam.
And I ain’t scared to grab my gun,
And fight for my homeland.
If you don’t love the American flag,
You can kiss my country ass.
If you’re a down home, backwoods redneck,
Hey come on, stand up and raise your glass.
But if you ain’t down with my outlaw crowd,
You can kiss my country ass. Aw yeah!
[Instrumental break]
Aw yeah…
Well, there’s a whole lotta high-class people out there
That’s lookin’ down on me
Cause the country club where I belong
Is the Honky Tonk till three in the mornin’
Don’t wear no fancy clothes
No ties or three piece suits.
You can find me in my camouflage cap
My t-shirt and cowboy boots
If that don’t fit your social class
You can kiss my country ass
If you’re a down home, backwoods redneck
Hey, come on, stand up and raise your glass
But if you ain’t down with my outlaw crowd
You can kiss my country ass
Well I’m a front-porch sittin’,
Guitar pickin’, moonshine sippin’,
Backer juice spittin’ country boy from the woods
And I love fried chicken & blue gill fishin’
And outlaw women, an’ I wouldn’t change if I could. NO!
I ain’t tryin’ to start no fight, but I’ll finish one every time
So you just mind your own damn business
Stay the hell outta mine.
If you got a problem with that
You can kiss my country ass
I said if you got a problem with any of that
You can kiss my natural born, Redneck to the bone
Ever-lovin’ country ass.
I love this song by Miranda Lambert – see if it gives you goosebumps like it does me:
The House That Built Me Lyrics
Miranda Lambert
I know they say you canβt go home again
I just had to come back one last time
Maβam I know you donβt know me from Adam
But these handprints on the front steps are mine
Up those stairs in that little back bedroom
Is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar
I bet you didnβt know under that live oak
My favorite dog is buried in the yard
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here itβs like Iβm someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear Iβll leave
Wonβt take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
Mama cut out pictures of houses for years
From Better Homes and Gardens magazine
Plans were drawn and concrete poured
Nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mamaβs dream
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here itβs like Iβm someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear Iβll leave
Wonβt take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can
I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here itβs like Iβm someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could walk around I swear Iβll leave
Wonβt take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
Why must Monday arrive so quickly? Or is it that the weekend flies by so fast? I suppose that saying is certainly true – time flies when you’re having fun! Princess Nagger especially enjoyed the weekend, since she got to spend 7 hours Saturday at a friend’s house and jump in a bounce-house all day! You can bet she slept like a rock Saturday night.
Let’s finish up with a final fun song, a collaboration between Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins – the video is as hysterical as the words are:
Hillbilly Bone Lyrics
Blake Shelton, featuring Trace Adkins
Here we go
Yeah
Ha-ha-ha-ha
Aw man you gotta watch where
you’re sniffin’ around here
Yeah I got a friend in New York City
He’s never heard of Conway Twitty
Don’t know nothin’ ’bout grits and greens
Never been south of Queens
But he flew down here on a business trip
I took him honky tonkin’ and that was it
He took to it like a pig to mud like a cow to cud
We all got a hillbilly bone down deep inside
No matter where you from you just can’t hide it
When the band starts bangin’ and the fiddle saws
You can’t help but hollerin’, Yee Haw!
When you see them pretty little country queens
Man you gotta admit that in them genes
Ain’t nothin’ wrong, just gettin’ on
Your hillbilly bone-ba-bone-ba-bone-bone
Ah, preach about hillbilly to ’em Blake
Ah listen to this
Nah, you ain’t gotta be born out in the sticks
With a F-150 and a 30-06,
Or have a Bubba in the family tree
To get on down with me
Yea Bubba all you need is an open mind
If it fires you up you gotta let it shine
When it feels so right that it can’t be wrong
Come on, come on, come on
You ain’t alone, you ain’t alone
We all got a hillbilly bone down deep inside
No matter where you from you just can’t hide it
When the band starts bangin’ and the fiddle saws
You can’t help but hollerin’, Yee Haw!
When you see them pretty little country queens
Man you gotta admit that in them genes
Ain’t nothin’ wrong, just gettin’ on
Your hillbilly bone-ba-bone-ba-bone-bone
Com’ on ya all
We all got a hillbilly bone down deep inside
No matter where you from you just can’t hide it
When the band starts bangin’ and the fiddle saws
You can’t help but hollerin’, Yee Haw!
When you see them pretty little country queens
Man you gotta admit that in them genes
Ain’t nothin’ wrong, just gettin’ on
Your hillbilly bone-ba-bone-ba-bone-bone
Hillbilly bone-ba-bone-ba-bone-bone
Hillbilly bone-ba-bone-ba-bone-bone
Hillbilly bone-ba-bone-ba-bone-bone
Well there it is
I always wanted to sing a bone song
Bet that last song is going to be running in your head all day, isn’t it?Β You’re welcome.Β Enjoy your Monday!

I love Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. Awesome choices!
Blake Shelton has a beautiful, rich voice and he is easy on the eye too! I just love their love story and how they met on the show and fell in love. You’re right – he was certainly smitten with her! Lovely songs and Miranda’s “The House That Built Me” was really moving.

Wait, what? The world didn’t end? Well I’ll be. I like Blake and Miranda too, glad they got hitched. My kids can bounce/swim all day long and still be up at 5am, how is that? PN needs to teach them to sleep! We have the bounce house setup on the patio next to the pool (we’ve had a few playdates recently) but nothing tires these kids out. Hope you’re all doing well!
Love it!

A lot of good music in this weeks post. The lunatics have changed their minds, the world is now going to end in October….of course it will…
I don’t know how you an come up with so many good ones every week. It’s terrific.
How to import blog posts to Facebook Page
Love both of them. I actually know the song writer who wrote the house that built me that Miranda recorded. Kinda cool.
Well, I’m more into the classics like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Miranda and Blake aren’t bad though for newer stuff I must admit.
Bob from 36 Bar Stools would like you to read ..36 Bar Stools Wood

I think I like the “Love Song” best after “Kiss my Country Ass” – that one is definitely a great song.
Hope you are having a wonderful week.
not a country fan, but they do have such great voices. always nice to hear real talent and not autotune
