Happy Memorial Day!  Hope you all are enjoying your long weekend.  Princess Nagger only has 1-1/2 days of school left – she’s excited about what summer will bring, of course. Since Memorial Day tends to be the weekend that kicks off Summer, today’s theme for Monday’s Music Moves Me is Summer Songs or Songs of the Weather – but I’m focusing on Summer – because it’s so fun!  What better way to kick off this mini music fest than with a song by Kenny Chesney, appropriately entitled “Summertime”:

Since Mother Nature has already been sending us summer heat in the spring, I’m betting we’re in for a long hot summer…so Keith Urban’s song, “Long Hot Summer” is definitely appropriate:

Since today is Memorial Day, I thought I’d wrap this post up with a brief history about Memorial Day, and share a song for this special day.

Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day.

There is also evidence that organized women’s groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, “Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping” by Nella L. Sweet carried the dedication “To The Ladies of the South who are Decorating the Graves of the Confederate Dead”.

However, wherever or whenever it began, in honor of today I’m sharing Ronnie Dunn’s new song, Bleed Red:

  16. Happy Memorial Day, hope yours was great! I think it’s funny that everyone around the blogosphere is just kicking off summer… we’ve been in the pool for almost two months now. And it’s too hot to be outside and NOT be in the pool…. bleh.

  17. Cute shorts for Kenney & yes great way to start off your Post today. I some how cannot see Keith Urban married to what’s her name. Oh well. Party man George Strait is always fun. Hubby& I love Jimmy Buffet, all his songs, but hubby luvs Cheeseburger in Paradise has a tee shirt like that. LOL Oh heck, you always have the perfect choices. I haven’t heard Ronnie Dunn’s song, but it sure says it like it is! Thanks Girlfriend for saying it like it is! HUGS.
