Mother Nature finally acquiesced to my pleas and sent us some gorgeous spring weather over the weekend – lots of sunshine, not too hot and not too cold.  Of course like the finicky you-know-what she is, she couldn’t just leave it that way, so we barely got the jungle posing as grass mowed mere moments before she sent more rain.  Continuing over the next several days.

Which makes this week’s theme for Monday’s Music Moves me very appropriate – songs about color or weather.  As soon as I saw that, I knew which song was top on my list – “Rain Is A Good Thing” by this cutie, Luke Bryan:

Rain Is A Good Thing Lyrics
Luke Bryan

(Verse 1)
My daddy spent his life lookin’ up at the sky
He’d cuss, kick the dust, sayin’ son it’s way too dry
It clouds up in the city, the weather man complains
But where I come from, rain is a good thing

(Chorus)
Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin’ up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our honeys down, we take ’em into town
Start washin’ all our worries down the drain
Rain is a good thing

(Verse 2)
Ain’t nothin’ like a kiss out back in the barn
Wringin’ out our soakin’ clothes, ridin’ out a thunderstorm
When tin roof gets to talkin’; that’s the best love we made
Yea where I come from, rain is a good thing

Repeat Chorus

(Bridge)
Farmer Johnson does a little dance
Creeks on the rise, roll up your pants
Country girls, they wanna cuddle
Kids out playin’ in a big mud puddle

Repeat Chorus

Rain is a good thing, rain is a good thing, rain is a good thing

I’ll take his word for it as we try to stay dry this week.  And even though it’s warming up, I couldn’t leave this song out by the Zac Brown Band, “Colder Weather“, it’s hauntingly beautiful:

Colder Weather Lyrics
Zac Brown Band

She’d trade Colorado if he’d take her with him,
Closes the door before the winter lets the cold in,
And wonders if her love is strong enough to make him stay,
She’s answered by the tail lights
Shining through the window pane

(Chorus)
He said I wanna see you again
But I’m stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then
She said you’re a ramblin’ man
And you ain’t ever gonna change
You gotta gypsy soul to blame
And you were born for leavin’

At a truck stop diner just outside of Lincoln,
The night is black as the coffee he was drinkin’,
And in the waitress’ eyes he sees the same ‘ol light a shinin’,
He thinks of Colorado
And the girl he left behind him

(Chorus)
He said I wanna see you again
But I’m stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then
She said you’re a ramblin’ man
And you ain’t ever gonna change
You got a gypsy soul to blame
And you were born for leavin'(born for leavin’)

Well it’s a winding road
When your in the lost and found
You’re a lover I’m a runner
And we go ’round ‘n ’round
And I love you but I leave you
I don’t want you but I need you
You know it’s you that calls me back here baby

Oh I wanna see you again
But I’m stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then
Cause I’m a ramblin’ man
I ain’t ever gonna change (I ain’t ever gonna change)
Gotta gypsy soul to blame
And I was born for leavin’ (born for leavin’)

And when I close my eyes I see you
No matter where I am
I can smell your perfume through these whispering pines
I’m with your ghost again
It’s a shame about the weather
But I know soon we’ll be together
And I can’t wait till then
I can’t wait till then

I wanted to share some of my favorites that represent color – the first one that came to mind was a song from Train, “Your Every Color”:

I love this song from Kid Rock‘s newest album, “Purple Sky” – I’m betting you’ll love it, too:

Purple Sky
Kid Rock

We kept apart and connected by the same stretch of road
Neglected the truth and refused to grow old
It started a stream but then the levee fell
When the rainmaker had some extra seends to sell

I just wanna drink ’til I’m not thirsty
I just wanna sleep ’til I’m not tired
I just wanna drive ’til I run out of highway
Into the purple sky

Well, I just thought I’d call and see what’s going on
Did the hills all flatten out since I’ve been gone?
Are the fields all painted up in red and blue?
Are you thinking of me the times I’m thinking of you?

I just wanna drink ’til I’m not thirsty
I just wanna sleep ’til I’m not tired
I just wanna drive ’til I run out of highway
Into the purple sky

But if I’m gonna live until I’m 50
I’m gonna need you by my side
Cuz I don’t wanna dance without you with me
Into the purple sky

Livin’ like a soulless pirate somewhere lost at sea
Wondering if I ever make it home, will you come back to me
Could we dream up a reason for a rendezvous?
I’m back in town and I got nothing to do
We could drive all day with the top let down
We could stay in tonight or we could wreck this town

I just wanna drink ’til I’m not thirsty
I just wanna sleep ’til I’m not tired
I just wanna drive ’til I run out of highway
Into the purple sky

Buut if I’m gonna live until I’m 50
I’m gonna need you by my side
Cuz I don’t wanna dance without you with me
Into the purple sky

Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, huh, huh
Into the purple sky
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, huh, huh
Into the purple sky
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, huh, huh
Into the purple sky
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, huh, huh
Into the purple sky
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, huh, huh
Into the purple sky

And finally, it would be remiss of me not to include this song by Toby Keith, “Courtesy of the Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)“:

Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue Lyrics
Toby Keith

American Girls and American Guys
We’ll always stand up and salute
We’ll always recognize
When we see Ole Glory Flying
There’s a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Ohhh Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
‘Cause we’ll put a boot in your ass
It’s the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Uhhh Ohhh
Of the Red, White and Blue
Ohhh Ohh Oh
Of My Red, White and Blue

Enjoy your Monday!

  6. What a great collection of songs Stacy! I’m so enjoying picking up completely new music from you but I’m not really surprised that I’m liking it. I have never been a person to disclaim any genre of music. I especially liked the track by Zac Brown Band but I agree that rain is good! (I grew up in Africa where we really needed the rain!)

  7. We had a beautiful weekend. Of course, today is overcast and I don’t know what the weather will be like for the rest of the week. We have gotten so much snow and rain I think we deserve a break.

  8. Great choices there girlfriend. I can always count on a good friend to always be there for me like you are with all these great songs to match our theme. At first I was stumped. Only had one song on my brain & then they flowed in, but everyone is really pulling through aren’t they. Thanks for playing – see ya next week!

  9. I agree that Rain is a good thing. I love rain 🙂
