Welcome to the Black Friday Edition of Friday Fragments! Do you prop your eyelids open with toothpicks and drag yourself out of bed at an ungodly hour to stand in the long snaking lines waiting for your favorite store to open in the hopes of scoring some awesome deals? Yeah, me neither.
Hence the reason I’m sitting here instead, typing these fragments since they have called a boycott and won’t type themselves. I wonder if Mrs. 4444’s is braving the Black Friday crowds? Whether she’s out there jostling for position in the madness or safe and snug at home, she always wears the best hostess hat – and not the donut variety, either. That I know of.

Along with the festive Thanksgiving Feast and subsequent Christmas decorating this weekend, we’ll be ensconced in a project for the Princess Nagger. Each student in her first grade class has been assigned to make a model of their house. Luckily just the outside, but it needs to be pretty much a replica contained on a 12×12 board.
First Grade.
I remember doing stuff like this when I was in a higher grade level – so I could do it myself. This project encourages parents to help (duh!) so of course we’ll be trying to figure out how to miniaturize this:
Onto a 12×12 space. It’s due December 2nd, so we have to get it done this weekend. Wish us luck.

Speaking of Princess Nagger Projects – apparently they are each writing a book about one of their pets. Very cool idea – and again something I don’t remember doing in first grade. She needed to bring in a picture of her pet. But instead of choosing the often photographed dogs or cat to write about, she chose her subject to be her pet dove.
Do you know how hard it is to take a picture of a dove in a cage? After 40 shots (and no, we’re not talking Tequila here, though it may have made it a bit easier having my arms at interesting angles inside the cage trying to get the dove’s best ‘close up’). This was the one that made the cut – interestingly enough, this was the second picture taken of the 40:
I’m excited to see the finished book – they needed the pictures to put on the cover and will be laminated. I’m so glad that Princess Nagger is really enjoying school now.

Mango Girl has been busy outside the blogosphere lately so she hasn’t posted any updates recently. Princess Nagger got a huge surprise when this showed up in the mail last week:
Isn’t it the coolest?! Princess Nagger keeps wiggling her loose tooth in the hopes that she can try it out soon. She wants to give it a ‘test run’ tonight with one of Rolex’s baby teeth. Wonder what the Tooth Fairy would leave for a puppy? Doggy treats? I already told her since dogs can’t spend money that she probably wouldn’t leave money for him – I think she was a little disappointed to hear that she wouldn’t be able to profit from baby puppy teeth. Gotta give her credit for thinking outside the box, though.

I haven’t been sucked into the whole Twilight saga yet. Haven’t read the books, haven’t seen the movies. So it may come as a surprise that I did pick up something Twilight related earlier this week:
I couldn’t resist. I’ve been collecting Barbie for quite a long time, and since I haven’t added anything new to my 300+ collection, I figured I would add something that will denote the rabid interest of the whole Twilight genre. We were at Toys R Us to get the T-Rex that Princess Nagger had been wanting (it was her ‘reward’ for doing ‘above requirements’ for a certain period of time in school), and I saw these begging me to get them. So I did.
After we checked out and buckled up, Princess Nagger paused in her avid admiration of her new ginormous T-Rex to ask to see what I got for me. Before pulling the dolls out of the bag to show her, I said I bought a vampire doll. Her response was “Cool! A vampire doll!” but when I showed her Edward, she made a face and said “He doesn’t look like a vampire!” I think she thinks vampires all look like The Count from Sesame Street. Or at the very least have a purple cape. Purple is her favorite color after all.

I went a little overboard stuffing my apple cranberry pie I made on Wednesday:
Princess Nagger had fun helping make the pie – and since it was stuffed so full, there wasn’t any extra pie dough left over for her to munch on. At least she got her wish for some pie dough snacks when we made a pumpkin pie yesterday morning. You’d think she had won the lottery when I called her back into the kitchen to dole out little sections of dough.
******************************
Princess Nagger Conversation of the Week:
The scene: PN is helping yesterday by stirring chopped celery and onions in the melted butter for the beginning of the stuffing while I chop the apples to add.
PN: “Did your mom give you this stuffing recipe?”
Me: “Yes, she did. I loved it when I was a kid, so now I always make it.”
PN: “Oh, well then it’s not
unique.”
Me (laughing): “Sure it is – everyone has their own variation of stuffing, and I make it slightly different than my mom did. That’s the beauty of recipes, you can tweak them to taste. My mom gave me this recipe, and when you grow up and have a family of your own and make your own Thanksgiving Feast, I’ll pass it on to you and you can make any tweaks you deem necessary.”
PN: “Oh, well when I make it, I’ll be on TV making it instead!”
In further discussion at bedtime, I asked her if she had changed her mind about being a Paleontologist – she still plans to be a Paleontologist when she grows up, but might be a TV Chef on the weekends.

And now, time for Happy Hour – this week I’m denoting it “Thankful Hour” in conjunction with the Spin Cycle Week of Giving Thanks!
- I’m thankful that the Thanksgiving Feast turned out delectable and the following food coma was well received.
- I’m thankful that after several days of dreary rain the sun is going to be out for the next few days drying things out and making Christmas decorating this weekend a much more pleasant event.
- I’m thankful that Princess Nagger has changed her list to Santa to a more economically feasible one.
- I’m thankful for all my wonderful bloggy friends giving me fun, interesting, hilarious and heartwarming posts to read each and every day.

That pie looks so good!!! I LOVE the Twilight dolls… we have them here too… we LOVE Twilight in the Crazy house, as a matter of fact we are off to see the 2nd movie AGAIN today!) LOVE the tooth fairy tray… perfect!! have a great weekend Stacy!!
If your house is anything like mine, your daughter's project will very likely become your project – for the most part.
Good luck on it!
That seems like a difficult project for 1st graders. Good luck!
I don't do Black Friday shopping either.
Love your house, it's beautiful!
I don't collect Barbies, but I did collect Lord of the Rings action figures when the movies were out.
That pie looks delicious!
Princess Nagger is hilarious!
Have a great weekend.
Quite a pie you made! No shopping today for me!
The pie looks great!
Thank PN for the much needed laugh! I always love her perspective on things
Ehhh, good luck on the project!
I have not heard from Mango in a while 🙁
The pie looks wonderful, and I bet dinner was even better.
we need to talk about some wine 🙂
Hope you have a great weekend!
You'll have to post pictures of that house when you are finished – it's amazing what projects they do in school any more. PowerPoint presentations on first ladies in the White House – last year, third grade. Crazy.
That pie looks amazing!
And I love the tooth holder thing.
that pie looks amazing! what a cool tooth fairy thing as well! keep chasing the doves! smiles.
hope you have a great day!
Boy, you were busy in the kitchen! That pie looks wonderful! Eating Mom's pie crust scraps (with cinnamon sugar) is a fond memory for me 🙂
For the house model, how about sugar cubes with fruit roll-up shutters? That is pure craziness, I tell you. And what exactly is the 1st grade curriculum standard this aims to meet?
All vampires SHOULD look like the Count. 🙂 The other creepy vampires from the movie are icky.
Great looking pie!
Your house is gorgeous but that project sounds way too much like hard work – good luck with it!
I think your bird photography frustration sounds even worse than the fish photography I was doing just recently, what is it with pets that just don't get the whole portraiture thing?!
I have a muppet style vampire doll, it's the puppet Angel from the Angel episode Smile Time. My kids love him, especially his removable nose 🙂 No purple cape though.
PIE!
Happy FF 🙂
The pie looks so yummy! Good luck with your projects!
I'm thankful I found you and thanful you do happy hour friday with us (even tho I was like 18 hours late…) Oh well.
Your pie looks amazing… well and kinda funny too! I have never – ever – seen one that stuffed! I bet it was good!
Lots of luck miniaturizing the house!! Sounds like one of those nightmarish school projects that ends up taking beaucoup hours! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! The pie looks divine…
Those sound like huge projects.
Your pie looks awesome and we really enjoyed the make ahead mashed potatoes. I haven't gotton into the Twilight, New Moon stuff either. The dolls awe really cute.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
You're home is beautiful.
And I always loved those baked pieces of dough with butter yum..
That pie looks absolutely DELICIOUS! We only had a store-bought pumpkin pie, which we completely forgot to make!

I like the new look around here. I can't believe how much bigger Princess Nagger looks! It goes too fast, doesn't it?
I feel totally jinxed!!!!!!!!! OMG!!! I clicked follow to find out that I am follower #666 Maybe I can use my devil curse to put some voodoo on a few pp
I love your new blog theme with the snow for winter. Very cute.
Glad to hear your turkey day went well. My vote is to say screw it to the freaking 3d model. WTF!! She does not even know how to make a scale model using proportions. I can not even imagine that she has even seen a fraction??? Let her knock out something. This grade does not count on a HS transcript for colleges. Let it go.
It never fails that I get to the end and forget what was so funny in the beginning!
Oh Pottery! You got pottery in the mail. What a FAB gift! I'm so excited that she loves it, too. Hysterical about the doggy teeth. I think a doggy biscuit is appropriate!
Oh, when I laughed right out loud – it was the 40 shots comment. LOL Love it. Good photo of the dove. The tequila must have helped 🙂
I just finished the Twilight books for the 3rd or 4th time. Can't help myself. 300 barbies? Do you have a Mary Kay Star Consultant Barbie? I have one of those. It's my only one.
Have a great day and that pie looked delicious.
Kristin – The Goat
Your pie looks absolutely wonderful…and WTH about the house replica? In first grade? I hope we don't have to do that when O. gets there or I might have to homeschool. Not really, because that would be hellish, but-you know.
I know you post recipes but I can't remember if you posted that pie recipe – would you please??
Yummy pie 🙂 and I love those Barbies 🙂 love the new look on your site 🙂 Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!!
hope you guys had a great thanksgiving. i cant believe they have twilight barbies! i shouldnt be surprised…but i am
Ok, wow….that project is a bit much for first grade! I hope you guys are doing well with it!
Yeah, I highly recommend the online/in-person shopping. I would have done it all online if I could have!
And I thought I was following you, but like you mentioned, I'm rectifying my own lack of following you! I thought I had clicked that little button a couple of Fridays ago!

That PN… what a HOOT. Wish I lived under your roof for a day so I could hear everything she says.
That pie looks AMAZING, yum!!
I can't believe that 1st grade house project you have to do. Did you finish it? HOpe it turns out great!
