Another week has flown by, but this weekend is special, because for most of us it’s a 3-day weekend to get nothing things done! And since it’s Sunday, it’s time for Quotable Sunday – bet you figured I’d pick some Labor Day quotes…well, you’re right!

First I’m starting off with some tidbits about Labor Day:

Labor Day (Labour Day) is celebrated around the world to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers. The majority of countries celebrate Labour Day on May 1, popularly known as May Day and International Workers’ Day. In Poland, the day was renamed to “State Holiday” in 1990. In Slovenia and Ukraine, May 2 is also a national holiday.

In the United States and Canada, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September. Ireland (also called May Day) on the first Monday in May. The Bahamas on the first Friday of June. And New Zealand on the fourth Monday of October.

There! Aren’t you glad you were wondering about the whole Labor Day thing? And now, some Labor Day Quotes:

“If all the cars in the United States were placed end to end, it would probably be Labor Day Weekend.”
Doug Larson

“Labor Day is a glorious holiday because your child will be going back to school the next day. It would have been called Independence Day, but that name was already taken.”
Bill Dodds

“Sometimes it’s important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it’s essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow.”
Douglas Pagels

“The only liberty an inferior man really cherishes is the liberty to quit work, stretch out in the sun, and scratch himself.”
H.L. Mencken

“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
Martin Luther King Jr.

“No great achievement is possible without persistent work.”
Bertrand Russell

“A man is not paid for having a head and hands, but for using them.”
Elbert Hubbard

“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.”
Thomas Jefferson

“There is no labor a person does that is undignified; if they do it right.”
Bill Cosby

“Do your work with your whole heart, and you will succeed – there’s so little competition.”
