Fall just happens to be my favorite season – don’t know why, aside from the fact that having wonderful sunny days that are crisp and cool vs. hot and humid, “good sleepin’ weather” nights, and the wonderful color changes that are a feast for the eyes. I love Fall!

Our weather has been teasing us with the upcoming ‘true’ Fall weather – only getting into the 70’s during the day and dipping into the 50’s and 60’s at night. But the last couple of days have been more humid than crisp, so I can’t wait until that humidity finally bids adieu for the season.

I’ve always been a huge Christmas decor person, really going all-out for that holiday, but over the last few years I’ve also gotten big into decorating for Fall… hay bales, pumpkins, (cute) scarecrows and Indian corn on the porches (both front and back – since the front is only for the enjoyment of the passing motorists, but the back porch has to be decorated for me and everyone who comes to visit).

Each year I’ve picked up even more decorative things specifically for Fall (and Thanksgiving), but even though Princess Nagger is at the age where she understands – and enjoys – Halloween, I can’t bring myself to add ghoulish decor…so I tell her that the ‘Fall Decorations’ will suffice for Fall in general, plus will cover Halloween and Thanksgiving…a three-for-one deal. So far she’s bought that explanation…wonder how long it will be before she starts nagging me to add some ghosts and goblins to my decor?

As far as Halloween goes, last year I talked her out of dressing up as a witch…I found a cute pirate costume instead. Not the ‘traditional’ black and white and red kind, but an adorable pink and brown pirate costume – even called “Pink Pirate”…she loved it (as did I) and this year she’s decided she’d like to dress up as the Tooth Fairy. She has a (too big) purple tutu she wants to wear and a set of fairy wings, I just have to get a tiara and wand for her to carry – and I plan to fashion some sort of ‘tooth bucket’ for her to collect her bounty in.

That means at least for one more year I’ll get to enjoy her Halloween ‘getup’ in the ‘cuteness’ stage…my hubby continues to remind me she won’t be my ‘dress-up doll’ forever, so I’m taking advantage of those moments as much as I can.

Soon it will be time to start the Fall Decorating process – here’s how I decorated last year (you’ll notice I waited until later in October…I’m not waiting that long this year):

I didn’t take pictures of the front porch – it was blustery cold and windy and my fingers were frozen, so I abandoned the idea of taking pictures. This year I’ll be decorating much earlier, just in case. This time I’ll get pictures. We’ll see if I can ‘out-do’ myself this year…stay tuned! Fall is definitely my favorite time of year… What’s yours?

  1. I too love fall, it is so beautiful but I know snow is just around the corner. Then it lasts 7 to 8 months. UGH the price to pay for living in Alaska and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

  2. I love the fall too, but I am a sad decorator. If I do the fall decore covers Halloween too. I may one or two non scary things but for the most part like th 3 for 1 as you put it.

I am going to try and get more into it all this year but we had a major ice storm last year and barely had power by Christmas..no kidding.

You have given me incentive. thanks
    xx

  3. Fall is my favorite season, although I live in Florida and we don't really have much of a 'fall'. I love the decorations and activities even more than the Christmas holidays! I can't wait to start decorating.
    LOVE the Tooth Fairy idea!

  4. I also love the Fall – or Autumn as we call it! – and Winter. Cool, crisp mornings make me very happy indeed.

Love the Halloween tooth fairy. As the 'trick' she could pull people's teeth out.

  5. The problem that I have with the fall is that the great weather and good things last only a few weeks and then it leads to the cold and wet season. Spring is so much better to me!!!

  6. Fall, fall, fall! All of the sights, sounds and scents! I can't wait to break out the fall scented candles, trying to wait until at least 10/1. We've been through our fall decorations, we have just.

I bought two beautiful purple asters the other day for our little garden around the patio. Tara can't wait to go to the pumpkin patch(es). We have two local farms that do it big for fall, so we will buy one (at least) from each!

We have been waiting for this ever since our move back home was finalized.

  7. I like fall, too. In thinking about it, I think my favorite is the beginning of each season. Those first signs of fall – the first winter snow – the first signs of spring – the early days of summer – I guess I like the change and the promise. I love summer, but I'm done with it. Bring on the fall.

  8. Oh you do a wonderful job! I keep it very basic here. My yard is usually in full red orange and yellow by October with a bit of green left. I'll pull out the jackolanterns and the pumpkins and set them up. I have a few candle holders but it's very simple to the point that I can take it down fast so I can get on with the Christmasing!

  9. Love the decorations! I don't do outside stuff b/c A. I'm lazy and B. I'm pretty sure someone would walk off with them. I do, however, have 2 huge tubs of decorations for inside. One of all fall and one with Halloween.

Summer will always be my favorite but I do love fall. It reminds me of my wedding…ah…

  10. Fall used to be my favorite season, when I lived in Texas.

However, since moving to northeast Ohio, where winter lasts 3 years and has inflicted me with Seasonal Affective Disorder so that I become something of a witch myself with absolutely NO help or need of a costume, Spring is now my season of choice.

  11. There is definately something to be said about "Fall" here in New England. That nights are crisp which makes for excellant sleeping. I'm puting up new drapes almost the color of the leaves on your picture. Everyone gets chysanthymums (spelling) and scarecrows ready. Kids playing in the leaves. I love it.

  12. You're making me want to get busy and decorate! I didn't do anything last year but I think I will this year!

A tooth fairy costume? That's so cute! I can't wait to see!

  13. I love the fall, too.

I like getting out all the decorations and stuff, but then they have to be dusted. And then they have to be taken down and put away. And then… oh, never mind.

  14. The barrel is a cute idea! I have an awesome back deck but 4 dogs can shred a hay bale in no time so I will have to settle for front only.

  15. Now you've got me pumped for fall decor too! I try to decorate our house cute, even though I don't have kids. I basically just do it for myself since my husband doesn't really care, but still, the kid in me loves it!

  16. fall is definitely my favorite time of year. all the trees changing colors creating an amazing palette, long walks through the woods on crisp mornings…perfect! happy fall!

  17. I love it too. I thrive on each new season as it comes. I start fresh with each one.

I grabbed your button and put it on my blog!

  18. I wish I could decorate. My version of Fall decorating would be pulling out the blankets for the couch. LOL! Your home looks so fun and festive!

  19. You really pimp out your house for the seasons!! Nice. I have read several posts today on Halloween which has inspired me to dig out the Halloween decorations.

  20. It all looks wonderful. I do not decorate like that for fall but I do for Christmas. I do love putting out the Fall decorations, it makes things look cozy.

  21. I love the fall… I love all your decorations…maybe if I had little ones around I would be more inclined.

  22. I'm just gonna come live at your house through New Years. It's much easier than doing it all myself and you've clearly got it down!

  23. I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

  24. I've always been an Autumn person as well. I love mid-september right thru til January. I decorate some, but I'm pretty lazy about getting stuff out, and even lazier about getting it put away later, so I'm careful not to go overboard. You've inspired me though, so maybe I'll do just a tad more this year!

  25. I love fall and you go ALL OUT! I will never show my own home for its fall decorations unless you count the obligatory pumpkin. 🙂

  26. Oh my gosh, you really go all out! I can't wait until my kids are a bit older so we can go all out too but right now they just seek and destroy everything in the house so I'm not even going to try putting up decorations.

  27. I love the warmth of summer, but I love the smells and colors of Fall. And pumpkin spice lattes. Mmmmm…. =)

I'm not a big decorator though. Some day I'll have a good house for it, but right now, not so much.

  28. It was extremely interesting for me to read that article. Thanks for it. I like such themes and everything connected to this matter. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.
